Position: Staff Accountant
Essential Functions
The Staff Accountant supports a broad variety of accounting functions and works independently at an expert level with minimal supervision; may include all or a subset of the following:
- Performs a wide range of activities in fixed asset management, specifically in areas of accountability, recording, reporting and problems resolution.
- Performs complex account reconciliation and account analysis; defines problem or issue, interprets, and conducts comprehensive analysis which may include data trends, deviation from standards; forecasting and cost benefit analysis.
- Reviews, records, and reports financial transactions in accordance to established accounting principles (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles – GAAP), policies and objectives.
- Develops nonstandard reports and statements, i.e., those containing cash forecasts reflecting the interrelations of accounting, cost budgeting, or comparable information.
- Prepares financial information for submittal for the financial statement and closing activities.
- Implements and monitors policies and procedures in assigned program area to ensure achievement of management objectives.
- Uses judgment and professional knowledge to assess, investigate and analyze unusual problems or complete projects in the absence of guidelines, policies and or procedures.
- Interprets, analyzes, and develops accounting policies, standards and procedures that facilitate increased accuracy of the Authority activity costing.
- Reviews and authorizes requisitions for posting in the financial system.
- Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the Senior Accountant.
Education/Experience and other Minimum Qualification Required
The minimum qualifications listed below are representatives of the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary for an individual to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable amounts of training are provided.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting for an accredited university or college and four (4) years of progressive accounting/finance experience. A CPA and/or Master’s degree are preferred.
- Good working knowledge of automated financial systems (Oracle financial preferred).
- Ability to work independently in project-oriented environment.
- Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
- Utilizes personal computer and maintains working knowledge of applicable software programs (i.e., word processing, spreadsheet, etc.) with solid MS Office skills and excellent Word and Excel skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Salary
70,000 - 75,000 /year
