Our client is a mission-driven nonprofit organization committed to improving the lives of underserved communities. Our team is passionate about making a difference, and we are seeking a skilled Staff Accountant to help us manage our financial operations and ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant will play a key role in supporting the finance and accounting functions of our client. This position requires a strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, including fund accounting, grant management, and compliance with donor restrictions. The Staff Accountant will ensure accurate financial reporting, assist with audits, and support the organization’s mission by maintaining the integrity of financial data.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
Assist in month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
Manage accounts payable and receivable, including invoice processing, payment tracking, and donor contributions.
Track and report on restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring compliance with donor restrictions and grant requirements.
Assist with the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
Collaborate with program and development teams to ensure proper expense allocation and financial reporting for grants and donations.
Support annual audits and assist in preparing audit schedules and documentation.
Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local nonprofit regulations, including Form 990 preparation and reporting.
Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
2-4 years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization.
Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, including GAAP and fund accounting.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
Experience with grant management and donor-restricted funds is preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
