The Staff Accountant will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of financial operations, performing general ledger reconciliations, managing accounts payable and receivable, and assisting with month-end and year-end closings. This position offers an excellent opportunity for growth and development in a collaborative environment.
Job Style/Location:
This role will be remote for the first year until a Tampa location is established. Once a location is solidified, the role will be hybrid.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the maintenance of financial records, reports, and the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Post settlement data entries for each customer’s monthly closing, handling calculations specific to the assigned market.
- Conduct detailed reviews of job costs, tracking any outstanding budget items, and coordinating with project managers to determine reserve requirements.
- Calculate and record cost of sales entries for each monthly customer closing.
- Prepare and post HUDs related to lot purchases, as well as entries for lot cost allocations and job starts.
- Analyze closed jobs monthly, comparing budgeted margins with actual outcomes to evaluate performance.
- Monitor outstanding purchase orders and costs for completed projects to ensure all details are accounted for.
- Regularly review active community zero-holding lots, adjusting cost allocations as needed.
- Complete monthly reconciliations for balance sheets and bank statements to ensure accuracy.
- Contribute to internal control processes and support auditing requirements as part of financial oversight.
- Assist in monthly closing procedures and work within strict reporting deadlines.
- Maintain and update vendor information as needed.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors based on business needs.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field from a four-year institution. The bachelor's degree is a minimum educational requirement for this position, and cannot be waived.
- Required Experience: 1-3 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Preferred Experience: Public Accounting experience (Big 4) and experience within the Residential and Commercial Construction industry.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Good understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial accounting statements, and business trends.
- Adequate experience with accounting software packages and MS Office; Excel, Word, Access, etc.
- Ability to work with others in a positive and professional manner and to develop and maintain strong working relationships with co-workers and management.
- Ability to take initiative, including asking for and offering help when needed, performs work independently without being prompted.
- Proper oral and written communication with both financial and non-financial individuals.
- Exceptional organization skills and high attention to detail. Completes all administrative tasks in assigned times (required)

Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to:
- the individual’s skill sets, experience and training;
- licensure and certification requirements;
- office location and other geographic considerations;
- other business and organizational needs.
With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
