JOB TITLE: Staff Accountant
LOCATION: Tampa, FL
DURATION: Direct Hire
RATE RANGE: $65k-$70k
Summary:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate financial records to track the organization's assets, liabilities, profits, tax liabilities, and other financial activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Record Maintenance: Manage financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts.
- Settlement Data: Calculate and post monthly settlement data entries for customer closings in the assigned market.
- Cost and Budget Analysis: Review job cost details for unpaid items and communicate with project managers to determine reserve amounts. Analyze budgeted vs. actual margin for closed jobs.
- Lot Purchase & Cost Allocation: Post lot purchase HUDs, calculate cost allocations for lot purchases, and record adjustments for zero-holding lots.
- Balance Sheet Reconciliation: Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, including bank statements.
- Internal Controls & Audits: Assist with internal control processes and auditing needs.
- Monthly Close Support: Contribute to monthly close processes and meet strict deadlines.
- Vendor Maintenance: Update and maintain vendor information as necessary.
- Other Duties: Perform other tasks as needed based on business requirements.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- GAAP Knowledge: Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Strong Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze financial reports, perform reconciliations, and think critically about financial data.
- Technical Proficiency: Highly proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, with advanced spreadsheet capabilities.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration.
- Time Management: Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Process Improvement: Identify and suggest process improvements and efficiencies.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years in accounting, preferably with homebuilding industry experience.
- Certifications: CPA (or in progress) is preferred. Knowledge of SOX/internal controls is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
