What You’ll Do:Title: Staff Accountant
You'll Report To: General Accounting Manager
Summary: The Staff Accountant assists with the daily transactional volume, monthly closings, and financial reporting for the property and casualty division. Assists with the preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules.
Duties:
- General ledger responsibilities
- Prepare standard monthly journal entries
- Complete monthly closing guide for applicable subsidiaries
- Ensure internal controls are followed and appropriate documentation is maintained
- Financial and other reporting with respect to statutory filings
- Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual statutory financial statements for the Investment Schedules and Cash Exhibits
- Assist with preparation of supplementary statutory filings, IEE, Investment Risks Interrogatories
- Assist with preparation of other Statutory filings, PCCY, ISO Reporting and other states statutory reports
- Prepare Insurance Tax filings, quarterly and annually for various states
- Prepare and reconcile the Municipal Tax Report for various states
- Complete monthly reconciliations as assigned
- Prepare assigned audit work papers and assist with audit requests
- Provide assistance and backup to other areas in finance and accounting
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational and professional development opportunities
- Special projects and other duties as assigned
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, or other related field from a four-year institution. The bachelor's degree is a minimum educational requirement for this position, and cannot be waived.
Experience: 2-5 years in a staff accounting role preferred. Experience with an insurance carrier strongly desired.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Outlook, Word (required)
- Detail oriented, committed to professionalism
- Team oriented, proactive approach to all situations
- FIS EAS-SunGard experience preferred, but not required
- Good written communication; reviews work for spelling and grammar (required)
- Exceptional organization skills
Working Conditions: This position will report to our Tampa office Monday-Friday. Normal business office environment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of time while constantly operating a computer and or other office productivity machinery such as a calculator or telephone. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery or communicate with coworkers.
