The Staff Accountant assists in preparing statements that follow all regulatory and accounting guidelines under the supervision of the controller. An effective Staff Accountant should have a solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). They must be organized with a great eye for detail and excellent critical thinking skills. Must be reliable and able to carry out tasks autonomously and collaboratively. Provides and processes financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data, preparing reports.

Essential Functions
- Balance and maintain general ledger accounts
- Analyze and summarize large data queries
- Assist in Financial Report Preparation
- Assist with accounts payable processing
- Prepare accruals for expenses and payroll
- Contribute to team goals within the Finance Department
- Understand back-office support/deposit operations
- Perform other tasks as identified by the direct supervisor
- Work with other accounting staff to research issues
- Adhere to and uphold all written policies and procedures of the bank, including BSA/CIP and OFAC monitoring and reporting, security operation and personnel policies
- Complies with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
- Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
- Ensures work completed is accurate and appropriate. Verifies and validates all data to confirm accuracy and reliability. Paying close attention to details of all information received and entered.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated ability to produce documents, spreadsheets, databases, etc. with Windowsâ€based software
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of Banking/Credit Union Industry preferred
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks while under strict deadlines and constant interruptions.
- Ability to think analytically and consider the facts, rules, policies and procedures.
- Ability to exercise judgment, initiative and tact in dealing with members, management, supervisors, and staff
Education
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent Bank Accounting experience
