Job Overview:
Our prestigious higher education institution client in New York City is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Temp Staff Accountant to join their accounting team. This is a temporary position, with the potential to transition into a permanent role based on performance. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of accounting experience, particularly in managing large budgets and high-volume reconciliations, and will be proficient in Workday software. Key Responsibilities:
- Bank Reconciliations: Perform high-volume weekly reconciliations for multiple accounts (operating, payroll, restricted, and unrestricted), managing 500-1000 transactions per month. Ensure all transactions are accurate and timely.
- General Accounting & Journal Entries: Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring all financial transactions are recorded properly and in compliance with accounting standards.
- Account Analysis: Analyze and reconcile various accounts, including revenue, expenses, and balance sheet items. Investigate discrepancies and resolve issues efficiently.
- Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports, including variance analysis and budget tracking.
- Budget & Revenue Monitoring: Support budgeting efforts, track revenue, and assist with financial projections. Experience with large budgets is highly desirable.
- Workday System Utilization: Leverage Workday software to manage accounting processes, financial reporting, and account reconciliations. Strong proficiency in Workday is required.
- Excel Analysis: Use advanced Excel functions such as Pivots and VLOOKUPs to analyze financial data and generate reports.
- Audit & Compliance Support: Assist with audits by ensuring all documentation is prepared and supporting the finance team with requested information. Ensure adherence to financial policies and regulations.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: 3-5 years of accounting experience, ideally with a focus on budget management and revenue analysis for large-scale operations. Non-profit experience is a plus but not required.
- Software Proficiency: Must have hands-on experience with Workday software (required).
- Bank Reconciliation: Proven experience with high-volume weekly bank reconciliations (500-1000 transactions per month). Comfortable managing multiple accounts simultaneously.
- Excel Skills: Strong Excel skills, including Pivots and VLOOKUP functions. Experience with advanced Excel analysis is a plus, but not a deal-breaker.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of accounting work.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with changing priorities and uncertainty.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with team members and management.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
