POSITION DESCRIPTION & OVERVIEW
Title: Staff Accountant | Reports To: Associate Controller |
Schedule: Mon-Fri, Daytime Flexible | Compensation: $65,000 - $70,000 |
Job Classification: Full Time, Salaried Exempt | Union Representation: This position is not a union represented position. |
Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for processing daily deposits, maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with GAAP accounting standards. This role requires a strong understanding of financial principles and best practices, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with various departments to support financial management across multiple program areas.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS
- Complete all phases of the accounts receivable function from preparing deposits, receipting and applying payments, to reconciling and reporting of donor records.
- Review financial records on an ongoing basis to identify discrepancies and errors and recommend corrections.
- Prepare month end reconciliations and recommend journal entries to maintain integrity of the accounting records.
- Assist in preparation of month end financials for both internal and external users and assure accuracy of said statements.
- Support the development and implementation of process improvements in collaboration with other agency departments.
- Assist with audit preparation on an on-going basis.
- Ensure financial policies and procedures are kept up to date and understood.
- Assist with monthly invoicing, receivables, accounts payable, etc. as necessary.
- All other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in accounting plus five years' experience in a similar position.
- Must pass Department of Human Services Net Study 2.0 Background Check.
- Ability to be flexible, multi-task, and manage time in a busy environment.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Possess superior computer skills with experience in Office 365, Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive materials and information.
- Demonstrated ability to learn a variety of computer applications as necessary.
- Demonstrated skill in understanding of cultural differences.

Experience that gives applicants the required skills, abilities, and perspectives listed above are commonly gained through one or more of the following:
- Personal experience with homelessness.
- Experience working, interning, or volunteering with people experiencing homelessness.
- An Associates, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in a relevant field such as Social Work (with accompanying licensure), Human Services, or Family Studies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Non-profit accounting experience
- Experience with Sage Intacct Accounting Software
- Position will be cross-trained to support the AP Specialist, Contracts Accountant, and Staff Accountant in monthly invoicing, rent check preparation, and month-end closing processes.
