Staff Accountant I - USNA Alumni Association & Foundation

The United States Naval Academy Alumni Association & Foundation is searching for a Staff Accountant I position.

This position is based in historic Annapolis at our current offices located next to the beautiful grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy. In 2023, the staff of the Alumni Association & Foundation moved into the new Fluegel Alumni Center, which was built on the banks of College Creek overlooking the Naval Academy and downtown Annapolis.

This position pays a competitive salary, commensurate with experience, and may be eligible for an annual performance-based bonus, when applicable. The Staff Accountant I should be mature, poised and articulate as the position will engage in frequent contact with Association and Foundation staff members, vendors and service providers. This position must be well organized, attentive to detail, comfortable working with numbers and able to work well both independently and in a team environment to meet deadlines and goals. The goal for this position is to contribute to the efficient operation and success of the department by providing enhanced accounting and financial expertise beyond that of the Staff Accountant I. This is a non-exempt position reporting to Director, Financial Reporting.

Qualifications

• A BS in accounting and previous work experience as an accountant
• Well versed in accounting principles with at least 2 years of not-for-profit accounting experience
• Good computer knowledge and skills, and advanced knowledge of MS Excel
• Strong verbal and communication skills a must
• Good financial and analytical skills
• Good organizational and time management abilities
• Keen eye for detail and an aptitude for problem solving
• Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge/NXT and CRM a plus

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process timely and accurate entries in the accounting software system
• Update and manage assigned general ledger and sub-ledger accounts, financial data and financial systems as assigned
• Review expenses, records and calculations as assigned
• Reconcile general ledger accounts, activity and statements
• Design and prepare financial reports, analyses and presentations
• Prepare audit schedules and financial statement notes and assist management prepare for the annual audit
• Serve as the technical expert in their assigned areas
• Provide technical support and advice to management in their assigned areas
• Review and recommend modifications to finance and accounting systems and processes and procedures
• Perform or assist with other duties or accounting projects as assigned
