The Staff Accountant is responsible for the maintenance and control of various general ledger accounts, and preparation of monthly financial statements and schedules. The successful candidate will perform one or more multiple financial activities within various finance tasks. Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepares financial reports. Maintains or oversees the control of accounts and records in such areas as disbursements, expenses, tax payments, and income. Salary is commensurate with experience. In addition, the successful candidate will also collect pertinent information for yearly audits and will be the first point of contact for accounting related issues. This position is 100% on site in our Herndon Corporate office.
Responsibilities:The Staff Accountant will report directly to the Director of Finance and will be responsible following:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reconcile general ledger and subsidiary accounts to ensure correct account classification and accuracy
- Establish records of accounts and input entries into proper accounts
- Update and track Accounts Receivables
- Balance Sheet Reconciliations
- Bank Account Reconciliations
- Assist with the monthly close process, to include reporting and analysis
- Recognize and reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account
- Assist in analyzing costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations
- Setup new projects and corresponding charge codes
- Assist in preparing year end audit and quarter end reviews
- Document and ensure proper keeping of financial records utilizing corporate systems, government systems, practices, and technologies
- Additional tasks include financial reporting, process improvements and ad hoc projects
- Assist in processing travel expenses
- Process employee reimbursements
- Gather and analyze program performance data
- Regularly generate funding, ETC, and EAC reports to monitor project progress and ensure effective management of spend plans
- Review and enter contract modifications into software system
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- U.S. citizenship.
- Highly motivated self-starter with ability to multi-task and complete assignments as well as accept direction on given
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Effective working independently or collaboratively as a team player
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, notably Microsoft Excel
- Highly ethical and able to consistently demonstrate and reinforce the highest level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency, teamwork, and a positive results-orientation.
- Establish sound procedures so that accounting records provide accurate and timely information in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and are in compliance with federal, state, local and international tax jurisdictions.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting with 2-5 years of relevant work experience.
- Federal/state/local tax experience
- Knowledgeable and proficient with JAMIS ERP
- Experience with SAP Concur
- GOVCON Experience
- Payroll reconciliation experience
