Staff Accountant - Grants Specialist - Mission Neighborhood Health Center

The Mission Neighborhood Health Center (MNHC) is a non-profit, multi-site community health organization offering comprehensive health services in the Mission and Excelsior Districts of San Francisco.  The center offers primary health care services, adult medicine, pediatrics, family planning, OB/GYN, HIV and homeless services.

We are currently looking for qualified candidates for our Staff Accountant - Grants Specialist role. This position reports to the Controller/Chief Financial Officer and is a Regular, Full Time, Non-Exempt role with a starting hourly range of $33.12 to $36.44 with full benefits. 

Primary Objective:
The Staff Accountant – Grants Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate, consistent, and timely accounting and compliance of the organization’s grants, including but not limited to, post award grant accounting, budget modification as well as ensuring compliance with funding source administrative guidelines, timely receipt of revenue, accurate submission of financial and other related reports and grant regulations.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Track, review, analyze and reconcile all grants related activities to all financials and other related reports. Maintain information and documents in support of grant related revenues and expenditures to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and other related regulations, statutes and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Prepare invoices, JVs, and reports for public and private grants and contracts and ensure deadlines are met.
• Analyze various grantor revenue and expenditure reports and makes appropriate recommendations to ensure compliance with budgeted projections and grant provisions.
• Manage grant cancellations, amendments, and payment adjustments.
• Build and maintain working relationships with program directors internally to ensure communication regarding grants is accurate, consistent, complete, and informative.
• Prepare and maintain documentation to support Federal, State and other related agencies' audit inspections of financial transactions including compliance, billing, funds draw down, correspondence and other related activities.
• Support departments with departmental grant budget projections in collaboration with the Controller and the CFO.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, local and special program reporting requirements for grant activities.
• Prepares monthly payroll allocation entries in relates to grants activities
• Assist Controller and CFO to perform month end analysis and other ad hoc projects as assigned.
• Keep abreast of all regulatory compliance and other related requirements.
• Maintain Grant Directory with funding source, granting agency, fiscal year and amount.
• Other duties as assigned by the Controller and CFO.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field, and/or any combination of education, training and experience providing.
• Three or more years grant/fund accounting as well as general accounting, compliance experience.

Core Competencies

• Knowledge of the health care industry, in particular an understanding of FQHC operations.
• Knowledge of general accepted accounting principles including reporting requirements and procedures related to Federal, State and other related grants, cost accounting, A122 and A133 audit.
• Knowledge of budget preparation and administration, financial record keeping and reporting.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of contract/grant administration and monitoring.
• Knowledge of Federal, State and other related laws, rules, regulations, and policies pertaining to grant and contract administration.
• Knowledge of specialized reporting requirements and procedures in the preparation of accounting records and financial statements.
• Ability to interpret contracts, requirements, policies and procedures relating to grants, applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
• Ability to compile and analyze data and prepare summary status reports.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communications skills (active listening, written & verbal).
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of people including staff and funding agencies.

Software

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint
• Utilized fund accounting software, preferably MIP, Sage 100
• Proficient in other relevant technologies

• Comply with HIPAA and HITECH regulations

Language(s)

• Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in English. Spanish is helpful but not necessary
