The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing a range of accounting duties including the preparation of financial statements, management of accounts, and reconciliation of financial discrepancies. The role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong analytical skills and the ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including journals and ledgers.
- Record and categorize financial transactions and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
Account Reconciliation:
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial accounts.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial records.
Financial Reporting:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for financial statements.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance and report variances.
Accounts Payable and Receivable:
- Process invoices and payments, ensuring timely and accurate transactions.
- Manage accounts receivable, including invoicing, collections, and resolving customer inquiries.
Compliance and Internal Controls:
- Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the development and implementation of internal controls and procedures.
Audit Support:
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and information.
- Implement recommendations from audit findings.
Administrative Support:
- Provide support in other accounting areas as needed.
- Perform general administrative duties related to accounting functions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in accounting or a similar role. Will consider entry level.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA or CPA candidate is a plus.
