Job Summary:
The Staff Accountant will play a crucial role in managing the financial aspects of our construction projects. This position requires a strong understanding of construction accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain general ledger accounts specific to construction projects.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable, including processing invoices, issuing payments, and reconciling accounts.
- Monitor project budgets and costs, providing detailed financial reports to project managers and senior management.
- Conduct job cost analysis and variance reporting to identify financial discrepancies and provide actionable insights.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of bank reconciliations and other routine accounting tasks.
- Coordinate with external auditors during audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Stay up-to-date with industry regulations and changes in accounting standards to ensure compliance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support financial planning and decision-making processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the construction industry.
- Proficient in construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, Procore) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and construction-specific accounting practices.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with strict deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- CPA certification is a plus but not required.
