Vogelzang Law, a mid-sized plaintiff's law firm in downtown Chicago, is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Finance Department. With over 20 years of experience in mesothelioma and asbestos litigation, we have the specialized knowledge and resources needed to litigate complex cases and the compassion to advocate wholeheartedly for our clients.

We are seeking an entry or mid-level accounting professional who would be responsible for maintaining financial records at our firm. This will be an in-office position with the hybrid work model becoming active upon completion of the training period. Our ideal candidate possesses 3 to 5 years of accounting experience with a strong attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate will have a proactive attitude, eagerness to take on projects, and work well both independently and in a team environment.

The position will assist the financial department at all levels. The Staff Accountant will report directly to the Director of Finance and will be expected to follow GAAP.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform invoice and general-ledger data entry
• Review invoices for appropriate documentation prior to payment
• Process payment for all accounts payable
• Handling of expense reports
• Applying and recording settlement payments
• Recording deposits
• Billing co-counsel for client expenses
• Helping answer accounting and financial questions to assist our clients when needed
• Help develop and implement accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures
• Prepare 1099's
• Assisting our Controller with activities in the IOLTA accounts

Staff Account Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
• Minimum 2to 5years of relevant experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
• Experience with QuickBooks Online is required
• Experience with Expensify would be an advantage
• Experience with Salesforce is preferred
