About Us:
Central States Health & Welfare and Pension Funds are two of the largest, multibillion dollar non-profit trust funds in the country. The Funds administer health and pension benefits to nearly one million Teamster members and participants with over 1,000 contributing employers to the Funds. Our building (constructed in 2019) is walking distance to the CTA Blue Line and close to O’Hare Airport.
This position will be working with the Accounting department to maintain the Funds’ financial records. Responsibilities will include preparing and entering journal entry transactions; preparation of monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements; performing monthly bank reconciliations and account analyses and investigating and resolving any discrepancies. Annual tasks will include providing audit support to internal and external auditors and help in preparation of schedules for annual Form 5500 filings.
Other duties include providing insight and ideas for improvement in department efficiency (includes updating and maintaining department procedures). Special projects and analysis as assigned.
Qualifications:Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving abilities; Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) and have respect for confidential information. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel & Word and have the ability to quickly learn other software applications necessary to complete tasks. Capacity to work under tight deadlines and work extra hours when required; Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
