The Staff Accountant is a key member of the Accounting team and works closely with the Senior Accountants and Assistant Controller in meeting close deadlines, preparing account reconciliations, and supporting internal and external audits. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
Key Functions/Responsibilities:
- Prepares monthly journal entries, analyzes and reconciles general ledger accounts. Entries relate to prepaid expenses, expense accruals and revenue recognition
- Handles weekly medical claims check runs
- Prepares weekly analyses of payments to major providers / facilities and reconciles to relevant claims system operating reports
- Processes and records claims refunds and returned checks
- Coordinates with Claims Department on processed claims in errors
- Manages daily/weekly bank transactions in cash module
- Maintains capitation funding receipts log
- Assists in the preparation of GAAP and Statutory audits.
- Assists with Accounts Payable processing
- Other ad hoc accounting duties to support the Accounting team

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
Education and Skills Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
- General ledger and month-end close related accounting experience
- Proficient in fundamental accounting rules
Preferred/Desirable:
- Knowledge of GAAP
- Exposure to managed care insurance.
Certification or Conditions of Employment:
- Pre-employment background check
Competencies, Skills, and Attributes:
- Must have collaborative, helpful orientation dealing with all internal personnel of Finance and Boston Medical Health System staff
- Must be able to prioritize, especially at peak periods; or know when it is necessary to confirm priorities with Assistant Controller
- Detail-oriented with focus on accuracy
- Proficiency with Excel, and Microsoft Office Systems required
- Expected to willingly learn new general ledger system and components of reporting
- Willingness and ability to perform day-to-day fiscal activities at all levels
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, complete work accurately, and meet deadlines
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Self-motivated, independent and pro-actively looks to take on new tasks
