About the Job
The Staff Accountant reports to the Controller and plays a crucial role in recording and scrutinizing financial transactions related to the company's assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenses. Additionally, they contribute to the preparation and presentation of accurate financial reports that reflect the outcomes of these transactions.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Review and ensure the proper recording of accounts payable and accounts receivable invoices in the relevant general ledger accounts.
- Verify compliance with the Firm's Travel and Entertainment policy by reviewing expense reimbursement reports and company credit card statements.
- Reconcile general ledger and trust account registers with depository and disbursement bank accounts, addressing any outstanding deposits and checks.
- Prepare schedules for balance sheet accounts, confirming the accuracy of account balances and providing transparency into balance sheet transactions.
- Analyze balance sheet, income, and cash flow statements to detect trends, exceptions, variances, and errors that require documentation or reclassification.
- Create journal entries on a monthly, quarterly, and year-end basis to record necessary accruals and reclassifications for identified general ledger discrepancies.
- Generate supplementary schedules and commentary to accompany financial statement presentations and reports for leadership.
- Produce special financial reports as requested by leadership, involving the collection, analysis, and summary of operational and financial data.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and subsequent periodic forecasts.
- Gather and provide the reports, schedules, and documents needed by external auditors.
- Propose enhancements to current accounting and reporting procedures.
- Undertake other related duties as assigned.
What You Bring to the Table:
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- 2+ Years of Accounting Experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Familiarity with full cycle accounting software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
