About the Job
School Superintendent Assessment (SSA)
The School Superintendent Assessment is a set of rigorous and carefully validated assessments that provide accurate, reliable information for use by state education agencies in making licensing decisions. The test is based on the Interstate School Leader Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) Standards for School Leaders.
SSA Raters score candidate constructed response items. Raters are trained to score responses holistically, evaluating the overall quality of thinking and writing against SSA standards.

Training
Raters begin a scoring session with an overview of the process and then receive training on each set of questions or items. The items scored are known as constructed responses. The training provides a foundation for established SSA scoring standards and procedures. This process ensures fair and accurate scoring. If questions arise during training or scoring, chief readers (highly experienced SSA raters who supervise the scoring sessions) provide additional assistance and help ensure that scoring is consistent and accurate.
Scoring Session Locations and Work Schedule
Scoring sessions are held in May and November each year. Depending on test administration volumes, raters work two to three days, Friday through Sunday in the Princeton, NJ area.
Rater positions are available based upon test taker volumes. Submitting an application does not automatically constitute your employment as a Rater. ETS reserves the right to withdraw an invitation prior to the scheduled reading session based upon business needs.
