About the Job
We are looking for an IT Technical Writer who focuses on creating detailed processes and procedures for technical operations and tasks. The IT Technical Writer reports to the IT Knowledge Manager and is responsible for creating and revising documentation to allow technology teams to efficiently manage processes and troubleshoot and resolve issues. This role involves close collaboration with leadership, engineering and development, and quality assurance teams to document and improve processes. In this role, the writer ensures compliance with the company's standards and requirements including Federal regulations within technical documentation. Essentially, this technical writer must be capable of evaluating and analyzing complex technical information and translating it into effective and consistent IT documentation.
Essential Duties and responsibilities:
- Conduct research and liaison with technical staff to ensure accurate interpretation of complex Information Technology data, process flows, and specifications.
- Create documentation for computer-based systems, software, and hardware.
- Develop documentation including Requirements, Design, User and Application interfaces, System/Hardware Configurations, User Manuals, and Help guides.
- Translate technical information into clear, readable documents for technical and business users.
- Ensure consistency, clarity, and quality in and across all types of documentation.
- Conduct quality reviews of peer-to-peer and formal code reviews.
- Engage in formatting, editing, and quality assurance on own work and the work of others.
• Write, format, edit, review and proof comprehensive documentation that meets organizational and technical content standards
• Ensure compliance with quality system requirements and regulations
• Review and improve the accuracy and flow of technical documentation including IT policies and procedures, software and systems development and configuration, systems operations, work processes, and runbooks
• Partner closely with Subject Matter Experts for knowledge sharing and document review sessions; schedule and lead discussions about documentation changes
• Maintain consistent formatting and style in all documentation using the approved and accepted style guides and formats
• Maintain a library of documentation, cataloging it for efficient internal use
• Gain deep understanding of technical information and translate complex information into simple, yet polished content
• Develop and maintain detailed reference materials, including research, usability tests, and design specifications
• Evaluate current content and develop innovative methods for improvement
• Create visuals such as diagrams and screenshots to enhance clarity
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- 5-7 years of related experience.
- Experience developing IT documentation.
- Experience communicating and coordinating with variety of stakeholders.
- Excellent attention to detail capability.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in technical writing or relevant technical field
• At least five years of experience as a Technical Writer in the IT field
• Firm understanding of SDLC processes, Jira, and Confluence
• Experience in writing documentation for various audiences including leadership, stakeholders, engineers, and information security managers to improve IT processes, refine content, and create complex visuals and diagrams
• Ability to effectively manage multiple, complex efforts simultaneously and adjust to changes in direction as needed to meet business objectives
• A high level of initiative and self-motivation
• Familiarity with authoring processes, tools, knowledge bases, libraries, and content management systems

Pay Transparency
Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards. Additionally, Maximus provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off. Compensation ranges may differ based on contract value but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience. An applicant's salary history will not be used in determining compensation. Maximus will comply with regulatory minimum wage rates and exempt salary thresholds in all instances.
