Senior Systems Engineer
Purpose of the Position:
The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for the systems implementation and management of IT systems in support of daily IT operations at a 7 x 24 Higher Education Institution. The Senior Systems Engineer assists and/or leads in the requirements gathering, designing, testing, implementation, operational support, and evaluation for enterprise technical solutions. The Senior Systems Engineer reports to the Manager, IT Engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
Functional:
- Provides technical leadership, hands-on implementation skills, and extensive troubleshooting skills for complex infrastructure and day to day IT operations support of operating system and application issues.
- Efficient in quickly accessing and appropriately escalating technical concerns.
- Ability to demonstrate troubleshooting skills systemically, documentation of issues and working problems proactively out of the environment.
- Proactively troubleshoots and implements solutions to ensure that all information systems products and services meet organization standards and end-user requirements.
- Effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical staff as appropriate
- Develops IT standards and procedures.
- Participates in IT Security assessments, risk analysis and reporting.
- Responds to requests for information on IT company policies, practices, guidelines, and standards.
- Responsible for resolving system issues.
- Ensure the safety of Information Systems Assets and to protect systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction.
- Weighs business needs against other concerns and articulates issues to management.
- Develops and documents standard configurations, build and support processes and FAQs.
- Serves as a liaison or technical resource for others in IT or to partners within other business units.
- Monitors, troubleshoots, and resolves issues related to SAN storage (netapp) and backups (rubrik) across on-premises and cloud environments.
- Configures, maintains, and upgrades NetApp and Rubrik devices, applications, and policies using best practices and industry standards.
Work Experience, Skills & Abilities:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or other technical field, or relevant work experience
- 5+ years' experience in:
- Supporting day to day hybrid IT Operations
- Implementing and migrating enterprise-wide systems to cloud providers.
- Supporting, maintaining, and implementing Windows Server 2012-2019
- Operating and maintaining Windows 10/11
- Implementing and supporting AD, DNS, DHCP, IIS
- Supporting and managing virtual environment technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, VDI, and/or RDS
- Supporting and managing infrastructure devices LAN, WAN, VPN, Firewall, Switches, Routers, Server Hardware
- Supporting Microsoft Azure Services such as Azure DevOps, Azure Monitor, Azure Security Center, etc.
- Working with enterprise SAN and NAS technologies
- 3+ years' experience in:
- Utilizing enterprise monitoring solutions
- Experienced implementing third-party cybersecurity products for e-mail monitoring, and file and storage protection
- Working with Azure Active Directory, Azure IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS services
- Administering Microsoft Office 365 (Exchange Online, User Provisioning, SharePoint, Teams, Security and Compliance)
- 2+ years' experience:
- Configuring, deploying, and maintain Microsoft Intune, Azure ARC, or other software/Operating system management tools
- Working with SSO solutions
- Creating scripts utilizing PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automating process improvements.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize workflow and tasks.
- Strong understanding of enterprise systems, application integration and the ability to quickly learn new software solutions.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge or past skills adhering to federal and / or governmental compliance requirements and regulations.
- Able to work in an On-Call rotation supporting users and infrastructure during non-standard business hours.
- Able to professionally communicate in verbal and written English.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Skype and Microsoft Teams
- Able to support a diverse and inclusive work environment.
Preferred Requirements:
- Microsoft Certifications MCSE, AZ-104, AZ-505, AZ-800, AZ-801
- 3+ years' experience in designing/documenting (Visio)/deploying/testing business continuity plans for a large enterprise.
- Experienced implementing Managed Security Service Providers.Knowledge of ITIL framework, Strict Change Management, and Quality Assurance.
