The group's main business is the implementation of mission critical digital mobile communication systems for Government & Public Safety Communications customers.The Upgrade Operations (UO) department specializes in performing software and hardware upgrades on live customer systems. The UO department focus is on minimizing the customer's downtime during software upgrades in order to optimize their upgrade experience during the moments that matter.Job DescriptionOur Company has an outstanding track record of success and strives to build long term relationships with our customers. The Motorola Solutions team comprises Implementation & Field Engineering, Project Management, Systems Engineering and System Technologist personnel working together in a high performance culture, often with demanding cycle times and high customer expectations as we work to deploy mission critical communication systems.
Many of these systems are designed around the APCO Project 25 communications standard, often with interfaces to other critical customers' sub-systems. With the growth of data services some of our customers' mobile wireless networks are being enhanced with connectivity to an LTE infrastructure, leveraging compelling applications and live mobile video, supplementing our traditional core voice and narrow-band data networks.
The Sr. System Engineer will be responsible for all technical aspects of the assigned upgrade or technology migration from project initiation through project completion.
Responsibilities:
Building strong customer relationships and delivering customer-centric solutions
Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
Live System Upgrades
Lead customer presentations
Adherence to best practices and established process
Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment
Work with the Territory Engineering Manager and other Territory Managers to obtain necessary resources to support the team's projects as well as escalate issues which cannot be resolved by the team
Staging equipment needed for a system upgrade
Complete system documentation
Collaboration with key work partners in Engineering, Project Management, systems integration, central support functions and customers
Collaborating with Project Managers and other team members to create and execute an end-to-end system upgrade plan
Ensuring the integrity of the architecture/design
Support and/or Lead Motorola Solutions technology migration projects for our customers
Individuals will be responsible for carrying out field engineering duties during a radio system upgrade cycle. He/she will be responsible for upgrading/deploying various devices which include network gear, Windows-based devices, virtual machines and Motorola proprietary devices. Along with above duties, individuals will be a customer facing technical resource through the upgrade effort.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree (BSEE/BSCE) preferred.
2+ years of management/leadership experience preferred.
Experience/knowledge in radio communication systems, radio propagation, RF, wireless or broadband/LTE highly desirable
Experience, good understanding, and working knowledge of IP networking, network design methodologies & troubleshooting (Ethernet, TCP/IP, L2/L3, MPLS) highly desirable
Certifications through CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, Nokia NRS1, CCNA or similar, highly desirable
Previous knowledge and experience working with some or all of Juniper, Aviat, Cisco, Nokia/Alcatel, Xtreme, Ceragon, highly desirable
Experience directly working with end-user customers is essential
Excellent communications skills and the ability to present complex topics to nontechnical audiences is essential
Ability to build relationships, collaborate and manage conflict.
Self motivated and able to maintain focus in a pressured environment
Up to 50% travel is required for all projects.
Salary ranges for the following areas: California, Colorado, and Maryland - $90k-$140k.
Basic Requirements
Required Skills:
Bachelor's, or Master's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, IT or Networking Engineering
6+ years of Systems Engineering or Wireless Communications experience required.
Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a background clearance as required by our government customers.
