Position Overview:
We are seeking an ideal candidate with extensive experience in precision component manufacturing for high-volume assembled devices. This includes expertise in precision plastics, metal stampings, screw manufacturing, and packaging design. The candidate should also have a background working with suppliers of custom precision components in highly regulated industries, such as medical devices or automotive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with teams of supplier engineers and quality engineers to enhance supplier processes, deploy tools and equipment at supplier facilities, and introduce new components.
- Provide mechanical technical leadership to the Engineering team, serving as the subject matter expert in GD&T, mechanical design principles, and automation.
- Ensure adherence to GD&T and design for manufacturability as the key signatory for component print specifications.
- Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identifying efficient manufacturing methods, deploying automated inspection systems, enhancing packaging, and recommending component redesigns for manufacturability.
- Design inspection fixtures and gauging equipment to support supplier metrology efforts.

- Foster the capability of team members to ensure successful project execution, engaging and energizing them to maximize performance.
- Facilitate group collaboration to develop actionable plans and document decisions.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Adaptability in a fast-paced environment with the ability to manage multiple objectives simultaneously.
- Proficient in DFMA, IQ/OQ/PQ, Six Sigma, Lean methodologies, and DOE.
- Strong interest in team leadership and development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in SolidWorks or Pro/E, and one of SAS, JMP, or Minitab.
- Familiar with MS Office, including Project software.
- Six Sigma Process Improvement experience or certification is preferred.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 10+ years of experience in product development, particularly in leading cross-functional teams within a regulated industry.
- Background in medical device development.
- Technical knowledge of complex electromechanical systems.
- Strong project management and leadership capabilities.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Preferred Skills and Competencies:
- Master's degree in engineering.
- Experience in development and/or product sustaining environments.
- Knowledge of component design and material selection.
- Experience with structured root cause analysis techniques (e.g., 5 Whys, Is/Is Not, Ishikawa).
- Familiarity with formal Risk Management tools, including Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), System Hazard Analysis (SHA), and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA).
- Understanding of relevant industry regulations (e.g., ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62304, 21 CFR Part 820.30).
