About the Job
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Master’s degree required; doctoral degree preferred. Major in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health or Behavioral Science, or related fields.
Knowledge of emergency medicine and/or emergency medical services (EMS) and/or pre-hospital care and/or resuscitative medicine and/or trauma/injury care is strongly preferred.
Emergency care-related clinical research and/or medical education-related research knowledge is required.
Grant writing and acquisition experience is required.
Minimum of 4 years related research experience required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
Strong record of scholarly activity, including prior acquisition of grant funding and/or contributions to successful grant proposals, peer-reviewed publications.
High degree of proficiency in conducting quantitative and qualitative statistical analyses for clinical and non- clinical research.
Exceptional technical writing and communication skills, including scientific papers and presentations, written correspondence, oral communications, and grant writing/proposals.
Experience with experimental design, methodology, and execution for multiple types of study designs
Emergency medicine or EMS clinical expertise strongly preferred (e.g. paramedic, EMT, nurse, respiratory therapist, etc.)
Strong experience with research protocol development and Institutional Review Board processes
Excellent teamwork skills; experience working in highly collaborative and fast-paced environments.
Requisite leadership skills and experience to supervise research assistants and coordinators.
Description of Duties:
Conducts collaborative research (clinical and non-clinical) with Department faculty, to
include idea generation, research design and execution, IRB research protocol development and management, supervision of research support staff, data collection ana analysis.
Search and apply to intra and extramural funding opportunities collaboratively with DEM team and external partners.
Manuscript writing, presentation development and delivery, and stakeholder engagement for
scholarly dissemination of findings and creation of new projects. __
Research staff development, faculty and resident research support, and related activities to build and augment DEM research infrastructure and its efficient functioning.
Monitors relevant scientific literature to stay up-to-date on field.
Attend all project and research-related meetings with DEM/Harbor-UCLA and Lundquist teams; liaise with external stakeholders, to include existing and potential funding sponsors, project collaborators.
Provide research direction for a diverse portfolio of basic, clinical, and translational research under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (Department Chair). Possibility for opportunities to serve as PI or Co-I on projects.
Conduct research (clinical and non-clinical trials) in emergency medicine, pre-hospital medicine/EMS, first aid, medical education, and related fields. This includes idea generation, study design, study execution and data analysis, and scholarly dissemination of findings.
Apply for and secures new research funding while building productive research networks.
Supervises research staff research-related tasks and other duties necessary to create and augment DEM research infrastructure.
Other duties as may be assigned.
Salary Range: $125,000-$150,000/yr.
