SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Amtrak is seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented professional to fill the Senior Project Manager role. This individual will be responsible for managing the full project lifecycle, from requirement gathering and stakeholder engagement to project execution, delivery and post-delivery. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of people skills, project controls skills, analytical skills, project management, and a strong understanding of business processes. The role requires the ability to translate business needs into actionable plans and regular analysis and metrics-based reporting to other staff, stakeholders, and sometimes senior leadership.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Lead projects from initiation to closure, following industry standard (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid, etc.) and/or Amtrak’s project management methodologies.
• Develop and maintain project management artifacts in accordance with Amtrak Project Management standards and applicable regulations.
• Coordinate multiple departments and resources to ensure timely, cost-effective execution of project milestones.
• Establish collaborative partnerships among stakeholders to facilitate scope, resource and, financial decisions.
• Identify and manage project risks, develop and monitor mitigation plans in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Identify and evaluate project changes based on cost, schedule, risk, scope, and user impacts, presenting recommendations to support governance decisions.
• Identify and document business requirements.
• Assess client needs and their impact on business processes that help establish strategic priorities.
• Advise stakeholders on options, risks, and cost benefits.
• Facilitate communication of high-level business requirements for solution design and implementation.
• Identify efficiencies and recommend improvement opportunities to enhance project outcomes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proven experience in coordinating with stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience in requirements management – gathering, documenting, and managing stakeholder needs.
• Experience using project management methodologies (PMI certification preferred)
MIMINUM KSA (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong project organizational and documentation skills.
• Awareness and/or proficiency in project management methodologies (e.g., PMI framework, SAFe – Scaled Agile Framework).
• Experience with business process analysis tools and techniques.
• Experience with project management and collaboration tools (i.e. MS Project, Jira, Confluence)
• Experience working in a matrixed environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
8 years project management experience and 6 years of business analysis experience.
Experience working and supporting Agile projects.
PMP certification
Experience working in transportation industry a plus
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Matrixed Teams
Hybrid and remote work schedule. Hybrid by-weekly, 2 days in the office.
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The salary/hourly range is $113,200-$135,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
