Position Summary
This position performs two primary functions. 1. Manages and coordinates the order and supply of Power System Division’s new generator set equipment for installation by contractors including tracking the equipment from initial purchase order receipt to completion of project. 2. Assist consulting engineers with answers to application and technical questions as specifications for new projects are developed. This includes assistance that results in a preference for Caterpillar product as identified in the specification.
This position is a resource for answers to technical questions and application of Caterpillar and related products for both internal and external customers. The incumbent must review salesman’s bill of material on equipment sold and compare to specifications and ensure compliance with items specified. Incumbent prepares submittals for engineer acceptance and responds to engineer questions and request for change. This position orders equipment from suppliers, schedules delivery, coordinates with the installing contractor, and ensures a successful commissioning of equipment. This position works to maximize profit on projects managed and achieve customer satisfaction in support of the division’s budget and goals developed by the General Manager.
Position Duties/Responsibilities
- Plans, manages and coordinates all aspects of the Power System Division’s new projects from initial receipt of the purchase order through completion, including, coordinating product delivery and customer acceptance
- Prepares and processes submittal information for engineer acceptance. Responds to request for additional information or changes to equipment proposed.
- Issues purchase orders to equipment suppliers and coordinates delivery of equipment to the job site.
- Manages and monitors the project expenses to maximize profit without sacrificing customer satisfaction.
- Manages and monitors the project’s time schedule to guarantee the product will be delivered and ready for startup on or ahead of schedule to meet and/or exceed the customer’s expectations.
- As required, is able to answer most technical questions and application questions with respect to Caterpillar and other related products for consulting engineers, electrical contractors, salesmen, and the parts and service departments. Questions that can’t be answered will be referred to/or coordinated with the Application Engineer.
- Works with Caterpillar and other vendors to obtain answers to questions of a technical nature.
- Develops relationships with consulting engineers that results in specifications identifying a preference for Caterpillar product.
- Develops a close working relationship with suppliers and their field representatives in support of the projects to achieve customer satisfaction and cost containment.
- Mentors junior team members
- Performs related duties as required.

Position Requirements
Required:
- Knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through college degree in electrical engineering or the equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in application and installation of electrical and mechanical products.
- 5+ years of experience or the equivalent in project management, purchasing and/or customer service, preferably in the electric power industry and particularly with Caterpillar.
- Advanced computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office software, as Word and Excel, AutoCad, data base systems and the ability to operate CAT PC and Main Frame Programs.
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in engineering (mechanical or electrical)
- 8+ years of experience in application and installation of electrical and mechanical products.
- 8+ years of experience or the equivalent in project management, purchasing and/or customer service, preferably in the electric power industry and particularly with Caterpillar.
- Advanced computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office software, as Word and Excel, AutoCad, data base systems and the ability to operate CAT PC and Main Frame Programs.
