JOB SUMMARY
Conducts high level engineering activities including decision making related to product design issues such as drawing, engineering specification, engineering cost, development timing, and testing for appropriate projects. Handles supplier design issues to expedite items such as problem solution, engineering review and analysis, engineering changes, and timing. Provides engineering assistance for ISUZU related companies and departments.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Design and development of chassis component and sub systems for redundant drive-by-wire steering and braking systems for commercial vehicles. Evaluates technical content and makes effective decisions to ensure product target performance requirements are met, improving quality, reducing cost, and keeping schedules.

2. Performs analysis, FEA, and work with CAE team to validate material strength, stiffness, and fatigue safety factors

3. Works with development and testing team, review test results and data to implement required engineering changes of chassis sub systems to optimize product performance.

4. Supports component sourcing process by collaboration with suppliers or other parties to define design requirements and create statement of requirements documentations to meet project milestones and product performance requirements.

5. Assists and consults with other Isuzu internal departments and companies providing technical documentation to support their activities.

6. Confirms all compliance requirements and all applicable safety regulations and internal standards are met.

8. Reviews and approves component drawings with requirements and functional performance specifications.
9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports to: Director, AE Vehicle
- No direct reports
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
- Minimum five years of experience in design and development of chassis sub systems and component design, steering systems, braking systems
- Minimum five years’ experience with CAD software, automotive chassis related UGNX design experience preferred.
- Minimum 1 year experience in NX Check-Mate (Siemens) or GM DCS operational environment / equivalent.
KNOWLEDGE
- Development process of automotive chassis components and sub systems
- Automotive parts knowledge for material (metal, plastic, textile), production process, requirement, test method, regulation, and development process
- Familiar with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard and Society of Automotive Engineers/American Standard Test Method
- CAD/CAM and PC computer system usage and maintenance
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Proficient PC skills in Windows applications
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong ability to sketch and read drawings
PHYSICAL STANDARDS
- Employee must be able to perform occasional light lifting (5-25 lbs) and rare heavy lifting (60 lbs)
- Must be able on rare occasions to bend, crawl, climb, crouch, kneel and reach above shoulder level in the performance of job duties
- Position requires 10-20% domestic and international travel, including overnight stays
Pay scale for this position is between $92,161 and $117,505. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
