ABOUT THE ROLE
Amsted Automotive Group, Powder Metal Business Unit is looking for a Senior Process Engineer is responsible for optimizing the centerless grinding process to achieve the desired quality, productivity, and cost targets. They analyze the process parameters, such as grinding wheel speed, feed rate, and coolant flow, to identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes to enhance the process efficiency.
This position is responsible for standardizing and providing global process engineering support for current and new processes. This individual will work closely with Operations, Quality, Sales, as well as directly with the Plant/General managers.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Manage Manufacturing / Process Engineering projects.
- Support globally Grinding processes for pin production – including manufacturing location decisions, manufacturing capability analysis and development.
- Support the Product Engineering launch process for all facilities as it relates to process capability and capacity. Direct involvement in the sharing of “best practices” for process engineering as it pertains to meeting customer specifications.
- Manage capital purchases of new equipment from initiation through runoff and start-ups.
- Provide continuous assessment of the current state of production equipment to provide capacity and capability assessments to management staff.
- Work closely with plant management to drive and execution of customer requirements and growth initiatives in their respective plants.
- Manage continuous improvement projects within the facilities, providing support with subordinates and outsourcing as required.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED
Job Qualification Profile:
- Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical / Electrical / Industrial Engineering or related field of study
- Advanced Engineering Degree preferred.
- Heavy focus on a Lean background and Mindset.
- 5+ years working in an Automotive / Truck, OEM or Supplier environment with Manufacturing Engineering experience in Centerless Grinding manufacturing environment – (Metals forming, machining, fabrication, etc.)
- Strong disciplined problem-solving skills with an analytic DMAIC approach.
- Strong written & verbal communication skills across all levels of the organization.
- Results Driven – with a strong history of driving Engineering projects.
- Well versed in Microsoft Project Tools – Specifically: Microsoft Project Manager / Microsoft Excel (advanced user)
- Certified 6 Sigma Black Belt preferred – Strong analytics / experience using statistical process capability (Knowledge of Minitab, Gauge Talker)
- Experience with Auto CAD, Pro E, Solid works, Catia (CAD design software packages)
- Quality Engineering Experience / Exposure to Disciplined Problem-Solving Skills, 6 Sigma - DMAIC, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Shainin techniques.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing tools and facilitation skills
- SAP Experience.

- Process knowledge with a high precision metal, Centerless Grinding process in a manufacturing (not assembly only) environment - (Metals forming, machining, fabrication, etc.)
- Thorough understanding of automotive business environment & the related quality systems. Familiarity with ISO / TS standards, APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Formal Corrective Action.
- Have the ability to deliver technical presentations in support of the BN process and product strategy.
- Willing to travel to support international operations. Travel expectation 20% in the first year adjusting after. Must be willing to travel to all BN locations.
- Experience in working in a global business environment with international reporting structures, and leading teams in which English is not the primary language.
- Multiple language a plus (Specifically: German, Chinese, Spanish, or Italian,)
- Must be an individual with the highest ethical standards who is a strong communicator capable of motivating and leading individuals to perform at their best.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Engineering Approach to Problem Solving – Documenting / Data Driven mindset. Exposure to Formal Disciplined Problem-Solving Skills: Six Sigma DMAIC process, Statistical Process Control Analysis and Implementation (SPC), Shainin techniques
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong presentation skills / Experience (PowerPoint / Excel sophistication)
- Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization.

Physical & Other Requirements
- Lifting, standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing stairs and ladders will be required.
- Flexibility to come in early or stay over late to support projects, down equipment, and production schedules.
- Weekend support may be necessary to support projects or production stoppage events.
- Thorough understanding of automotive business environment & the related quality systems. Familiarity with ISO / TS standards, APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Formal Corrective Action.
