We are hiring for a Sr. Payroll Tax Analyst to join our growing team! This is a hybrid role working in Duluth, GA.
This position will manage payroll tax compliance across 44 states, ensuring accurate and timely tax filings, and providing insights on complex payroll tax issues. As a key member of the payroll team, this role will help maintain compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations and drive continuous improvement in payroll tax processes. This role will also serve as a liaison with UKG's Managed Tax Services and be a point of contact for tax inquiries to include employee level payroll and tax filing. The position will also require an understanding of Payroll Tax Accounting, close partnership with our Accounting and Finance teams, and the ability to create and deliver tax-related analyses and reporting.
Job DescriptionWhat Would You Do? The Specifics.
- Payroll Tax Compliance: Ensures accurate calculation, reporting, and remittance of federal, state, and local payroll taxes for multi-state employees, adhering to all relevant regulations. Assure tax and SUI updates are input timely and accurately into the UKG Pro payroll system.
- Tax Filings & Documentation: Prepares and submits all required payroll tax filings on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, including Form 941, W-2s, W-3s, and other state-specific forms. Assists UKG Tax Services in responding to all tax notices and governmental correspondence. This will include, but is not limited to, tax overpayments and/or refunds, as well as penalty and interest claims.
- Multi-State Tax Expertise: Manages payroll tax requirements across 44 states, staying up-to-date with changes in tax laws and regulations. Researches and resolves complex multi-state payroll tax issues.
- Reconciliation & Audits: Reconciles payroll tax liabilities and resolve discrepancies. Coordinates with internal and external auditors to ensure compliance and addresses payroll tax audit findings.
- Process Improvement: Identifies and implements process improvements to streamline payroll tax processes, enhances compliance, and reduces risk. Collaborates with other departments, including HR and Finance, to improve data accuracy and reporting.
- Reporting & Analysis: Analyzes payroll tax data to identify trends and provide insights to management. Prepares and distributes regular payroll tax reports.
- Employee Support: Provides guidance and responding to employee questions and concerns on payroll tax matters via phone, email, and ServiceNow.
- Team Support: Provides guidance and mentorship to payroll team members on payroll tax matters, assisting with training and development as needed. Clearly documenting new processes and process updates as applicable.
Work Experience
- 8+ years of payroll tax experience with a focus on multi-state tax compliance,
Education
- Four year college degree or equivalent experience. Accounting, Finance, or a related field or equivalent work experience. (Required)
Licenses, Certifications, Professional Affiliations
- Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) ((Preferred)) or
- Certified Payroll Professional (CCP) designation ((Preferred))

- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and multi-state tax compliance. (Required)
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy in managing large volumes of payroll tax data. (Required)
- Excellent time management skills to ensure that all employee tax setups are completed and the company's quarterly and annual returns are filed timely. (Required)
- Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with payroll processing systems such as UKG Pro Payroll and ERP platforms is preferred. (Required)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex payroll tax issues clearly and effectively. (Required)
- Strong customer service focus with the ability to effectively communicate with government agencies and employees. (Required)
