Sr. Operations Engineer, Amazon Grocery Robotics and Automation Systems - Amazon

Description Amazon is searching for an innovative and solutions-oriented Sr. Operations Engineer to be a part of our initiative of developing and delivering the next generation of advanced technology systems. You will serve as a liaison between Fulfillment Center or Stores Operations (our customer) and the product design and development Engineers. This role will require the ability to build relationships across a cross functional team and capture and synthesize the voice of the customer. Their primary goal is to support the field activities including coordination and execution of installation, commissioning, facilitate testing and performance ramp up of the product allowing the design engineers and product team to focus on the system performance improvement and optimization. As an Operations Engineer for GRAS, you will be able to work with some of the most talented engineers in the design, development, and delivery of new technologies and advanced automated systems around the globe. You will support installations of complex cross-functional projects or programs that focus on the building of new, the alteration of existing, and the closing of end-of-life material handling and technology systems. As an Operations Engineer, you are able to support the implementation and delivery of complex system designs and advanced technology in ambiguous and complex problem spaces. You help integrate systems for safety, security, stability, and efficiency. You participate in the full system development life cycle, working within broadly defined parameters, including test plan execution and solution quality needs. You must be responsive, flexible, and able to succeed within an open collaborative environment. Key job responsibilities - Establish and maintain a safe work environment following all local, State and Amazon specific standards and requirements. - Lead and manage the installation of complex cross-functional projects with considerable impact. Projects may span organizations or geographies in support of a business objective. - Define projects (scope, delivery, budget), set objectives, analyze data, drive improvements to metrics, and influence resource allocation. - Responsible to deep dive technical solutions that encompass advanced technology applications, conveyor hardware selection, material handling integration, and vendor commissioning content and expectations. - Lead and coordinate execution efforts between internal teams and outside vendors including equipment specifications, material flow, process design, and site layout. - Lead and actively participate in design reviews and communicate future impacts of proposed solutions on an individual system or its components, on the overall systems architecture, and on facility processes. - Communicate project status, effectively answer project questions in detail, and regularly produce clear and concise summaries for the projects you own to your leadership/management team. - Capture and synthesize the Voice of Customer (VoC) for all new product introductions and leverage this information to prioritize system defects and lead the triage efforts with product Development teams applying lessons learned with the Product, RDE, and ETS teams to enable acceleration and deployment scale. - Develop and manage budget and contract documents including RFPs, change order controls, purchase orders, and invoicing. - Build strong working relationships with Fulfillment Center/Sort Center/Stores leadership and their operations teams across multiple sites as well as their Facilities, Finance, Safety, Process Engineers, and other business stakeholders. - Identify and lead process improvement initiatives in support of operations teams within a geographic node. - Develop cross-functional knowledge of Operations and Engineering team systems, processes, procedures, and tools. - Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions in very short periods of time. - Travel up to 80% throughout North America, which can vary up to three weeks consecutive travel including weekends. A day in the life Operations Engineers primary goal is to own the field activities including coordination and execution of installation, commissioning, facilitate testing and performance ramp up of the product allowing the design engineers and product team to focus on the system performance improvement and optimization. This will require travel to numerous project sites, constant coordination with teams and vendors to manage the installation, commissioning and startup of production processes through new advanced technology products. Daily problem solving for ambiguous situations challenges engineers to be right a lot while inventing and simplifying issues to resolve and harden systems for operations. Basic qualifications - Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field - 5+ years relevant work experience in technical project engineering/management of highly automated systems and/or robotics - Experience with integrating new systems into new and existing work environments. - Experience with influencing, negotiating and communicating across multiple organization levels - Experience managing detailed schedules and cross functional teams to deliver products to production - Excellent presentation and writing skills, with the ability to translate theory into practical application - Understanding of Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, and MS Project) - Willing to travel, up to 25% Preferred qualifications - MS in Engineering or related technical field - 7+ years of experience in project engineering/management of highly automated systems and/or robotics - PMP Certification - Demonstrated experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) - Demonstrated skills leading and influencing global business partners - Working knowledge of OSHA, CFR, RIA - Working knowledge with analytical problem solving methodologies, programs, and tools including Six Sigma, Statistical Hypothesis testing, Optimization heuristics, Simulation, and Queuing Analysis About the team The Grocery Automation and Robotics Systems Team innovates, designs, develops, and integrate automation solutions to reduce cost and time to serve, while improving customer and employee experience for our Grocery operations. The base pay for this position ranges from $95,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $177,900/year in our highest geographic market.
