Sr. Manufacturing Process Development Engineer, Power Electronics Joining - Tesla Motors

We're looking for a skilled Manufacturing Process Development Engineer who can design, develop, and implement innovative manufacturing processes that significantly improve production performance and capabilities. As the ideal candidate, you will be responsible for managing the ramp-up of cutting-edge assembly and test processes in a high-volume production environment, ensuring that products and processes meet Tesla quality standards. You will drive continuous improvement in our manufacturing processes to achieve our manufacturing targets and ultimately transferring equipment and processes to production engineering.

• Design and develop manufacturing processes that integrate advanced materials, precision equipment, and optimized process conditions to produce high quality and reliability products at scale
• Understand and solve problems around material characterization and mechanical testing especially on high reliability thermal-mechanical joints
• Deploy manufacturing processes and equipment to high-volume production, through rigorous tool qualification, process documentation, and training
• Ramp processes to meet high-volume production targets including cycle time, availability, yield, quality, and reliability, and drive a culture of continuous improvement
• Apply a range of manufacturing techniques, including fastening, welding, brazing, soldering, adhesive bonding, and other joining methods, and quality assurance methods such as vision inspection, leak testing, and electrical testing, to ensure products excellence
• Lead cross-functional teams to tackle complex problems, using rigorous problem-solving methods, data-driven decision making, and collaborative leadership to drive results

• 3 or more years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, with direct responsibility for developing, deploying, ramping, and optimizing complex assembly processes in automated high-volume production environments
• Experience in equipment / process development on semiconductor device assembly and packaging a plus
• In-depth knowledge of various joining techniques, such as metal-ceramic joining, diffusion bonding, brazing, welding, sintering, and more and a deep understanding of material-process-equipment interactions to optimize processes and achieve desired product and manufacturing targets
• Degree in Mechanical or Material Science, or a related field, with a strong foundation in engineering principles and practices, or equivalent experience
• Experience with lean and six sigma principles, including proficiency in tools such as DMAIC, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Design of Experiments (DOE), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Process Capability Analysis (PCA), statistical process control (SPC), and Kaizen
• Proficiency in data querying, analysis, and visualization using tools like MySQL, Python, R, JMP, and Tableau to make data-driven decisions and drive business results
