About the Job
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The incumbent will work closely with multiple attorneys, other members of the Legal department and business clients; this role will provide transactional legal support for a wide array of corporate and affiliate transactions. Under the supervision of attorneys, the Senior Paralegal will be responsible to support a variety of law-related activities that do not require a law degree, including: legal and regulatory research; document preparation and review; contract management; coordination and preparation of filings, reports and responses to regulators, business counterparties, internal clients and their respective representatives; as well as maintenance of books and records.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under limited supervision, applies legal knowledge to perform a broad range of tasks which include but are not limited to reviewing documents and drafting responses.
Provide high-level support to litigators defending commercial, medical malpractice, and general litigation matters.
Analyze and respond to medical and employment records requests.
Responsible for entry and update of litigation matters in law department case tracking computer system database.
May resolve routine minor legal issues/cases.
Provides broad based legal support services to attorneys and counsel in the form of legal research, drafting of legal and business communications, and internal systems support and maintenance.
Conduct factual medico-legal investigations on potential medical malpractice, employment and other litigation matters, and wage garnishment issues.
Normally receives no instruction on routine daily work, and general instructions on newly introduced assignments.
Escalates issues to supervisor for resolution, as deemed necessary.
Assist with various projects as assigned by direct supervisor.

ADDENDUM:
Litigation Paralegal
• Supports the attorneys in the FMCNA Law Department, who manage litigation and potential litigation matters, in coordinating and executing various case management and litigation support tasks.
• Candidate should have a general understanding of the litigation process and the ability to recognize and interpret pleadings, motions and discovery requests.
• Assist with all aspects of the Company’s Legal Hold process, including assisting counsel with issuing Legal Hold Notices and assisting with the collection and preservation of data as needed.
• Collaborate with in-house counsel, outside counsel, external vendors, and other internal IT groups to assist with electronic data collection and production.
•Ability to manage and prioritize numerous tasks in a timely manner with attention to detail.
• Interfacing with internal business colleagues at all levels of the organization, outside counsel, litigants and the Company’s insurance carriers.
• Handling the collection and organization of documents in response to Third Party Subpoenas.
Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Supporting in-house litigation attorneys and outside counsel in all phases of litigation, including but not limited to:
- assisting with pre-claim investigations;
- daily case intake and documentation of case-related communications;
- orderly facilitation of case administration and reporting through using internal matter management tools and systems;
- organizing and maintaining electronic case files;
- collecting documents and data for discovery requests;
- coordinating and overseeing document collections;
- ensuring appropriate handling of electronic discovery materials and compliance with legal discovery obligations;
- assisting with processing case settlements and closing files.

EDUCATION:
- Bachelors degree or Paralegal certificate preferred but not required
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
- 2 - 4 years' related experience.
- Strong investigation and persuasive writing skills.
- Professional, trustworthy and reliable with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to handle confidential information with respect and integrity.
- Expert in working both in a team environment and independently.
- Excellent customer service skills with proven knowledge of how to work collegially, effectively and professionally with all levels of internal and external customers.
- Excellent written/oral communication skills.
- Proficient with PCs and Microsoft Office applications.
