Sr Laboratory Specialist
Job Summary
The Mutation Generation and Detection (MGD) Core Facility and the Transgenic & Gene Targeting Mouse (TGTM) Core Facility work together to provide state of the art service and assistance in the field of mouse transgenics and gene targeting. The MGD core has the resources to carry out all the molecular techniques necessary to accomplish in vivo gene editing in mice while the TGTM facility has extensive experience generating mouse models by manipulating single cell mouse embryos. We are seeking a full-time laboratory specialist who will conduct benchtop research as well as administrative tasks in both research cores. Familiarity with standard molecular biology techniques and standard molecular biology equipment is required. Prior experience with mouse models is a plus; however, a strong willingness to learn and work with research animals is equally valued.
Responsibilities
1. Perform standard molecular biology protocols & procedures such as cloning and genotyping.2. Maintain and operate laboratory equipment.3. Assist new and existing core users with scheduling and the proper use of shared laboratory instrumentation4. May assist with basic animal procedures under the supervision of senior research staff (e.g., injections, sample collection, minor surgeries).5. Administrative tasks including but not limited to the coordination of importation/exportation of sensitive biological samples and database maintenance.6. Order and stock laboratory reagents, supplies, and consumables as needed.7. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific discipline or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), plus four years of related full-time laboratory experience required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry or related scientific discipline or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); plus four years full-time laboratory experience; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Emphasis placed on experience with standard molecular biology techniques and equipment along with ability to accurately and thoroughly document said techniques. OSHA training and certification in animal care and use or the willingness to complete certification may be required.
