Our Award Winning Client, a national leader in the building materials industry, is seeking a high-energy, self-motivated Sr. Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist to join their Ruston, LA plant. This position plays a crucial role in upholding the client’s commitment to employee safety, environmental stewardship, and compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Position Overview
The Sr. EH&S Specialist is responsible for driving continuous improvement in the plant's safety and environmental initiatives. Working closely with the Plant Manager, Divisional Safety Manager, and Regional Environmental Manager, this individual will provide hands-on leadership in safety policy implementation, regulatory compliance, and fostering a zero-harm workplace culture. The ideal candidate will thrive in both independent and team settings, showing a passion for EHS improvement and a positive influence on the plant's safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and enforce safe practices in alignment with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Act as a primary resource for OSHA and EPA compliance, keeping the facility aligned with all regulatory standards.
- Lead or assist in incident investigations, conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
- Conduct risk and hazard assessments to identify potential safety exposures and recommend solutions.
- Improve safety and environmental monitoring systems to ensure compliance with all corporate and federal regulations.
- Develop action plans for safety initiatives, oversee the Safety Committee, and communicate progress to plant management.
- Coordinate and deliver EHS training programs for all personnel.
- Maintain documentation related to safety and environmental compliance, including OSHA 300 logs and inspection records.
- Collaborate on Lean, Kaizen, 5S, and cost reduction initiatives to drive facility improvements.
- Manage waste disposal processes, ensuring proper handling of solid, universal, and hazardous wastes, and lead reduction, reuse, and recycling initiatives.
- Support environmental data management, ensuring that wastewater and air emissions meet regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the plant’s safety metrics and ensure timely completion of all EHS reports.
- Coordinate workers' compensation cases and related documentation.
- Serve as the training coordinator for EHS topics using SafetySkills and other CBT resources.
Required Skills and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety and Health, Environmental Science, or equivalent field.
- 7+ years of experience in an EHS role within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Recognized as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in specific EHS disciplines (e.g., Fall Protection, Machine Safeguarding).
- Professional Certifications preferred (e.g., CSP, CIH, OHST, SMS, CEM, CHMM).
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other safety/environmental laws.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Ability to work with regulatory agencies and contractors effectively.
- Physical capability to climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and tolerate hot/cold environments.
- Strong skills in communication, training, organization, and Root-Cause Analysis (e.g., RCCA, 5-Whys).
- Ability to work on call as needed and travel up to 5%.

- Experience Level: 7+ years in EHS with specific experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Environment: The Ruston plant is a 70-employee, non-union facility specializing in high-temperature insulation manufacturing. The plant operates 20 hours a day, 4 days a week, using steam-activated processes.
