- Process Safety Engineer with 15+ years of proven experience on leading or managing safety studies such as HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA etc. or fast track FEED & EPC projects.
- Applies expertise in Functional Safety to broadly stated technical problems in the OG&C global business unit.
- Identifies and defines problems; plans and conducts research aimed at their solution.
- Uses all available guides and precedents and expands and develops where these contain critical gaps, are only partially related to the problem, or are largely lacking because of the novel character of the project.
- Leads, as requested, in the formulation of advanced/complex engineering/scientific concepts in proposal development and preliminary design phases and presents these to client management.
- Conducts or leads special studies on new technologies, methods and materials.
- Serves as consultant to project and specialty engineering/scientific groups, providing advice and counsel on assignments having special and unique features.
- Establishes relationships with professional colleagues and outside consultants.
- Applies expertise in the specialized field of process safety engineering so as to eliminate, minimize and control process hazards that might otherwise threaten people, the environment or property, such that the residual risk is as low as reasonably practicable.
- The role supports the Process Safety team during the HAZID, PHA (HAZOP and LOPA).
- Ensure that all Process Safety Information is available for the client
- Communicate with subcontractor to ensure that all nodes have been prepared and the required information have been uploaded in the SW database
- Participates full time in specialized safety studies, such as HAZID, Process Hazard Analysis such as HAZOP and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
- Performs work using Standard Engineering Instruction and work practices for all the process safety design activities.
- Is able to work with all project disciplines in a constructive manner.
- Identifies and defines problems and works with others as necessary to develop cost effective solutions.
- Stays abreast of technological development in the field of process safety and loss prevention in the process industries.
- Participates in and fosters a work environment that is based upon clear communication lines, trust, optimism, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
- Specialized knowledge in Functional Safety.
- Recognized and respected for technical expertise in Functional Safety and has a growing reputation in the industry. Participated in a technical society committee or a code committee.
- The candidate shall be familiar with the integrated HAZOP and LOPA technique and relevant computer applications and shall have prior experience in participating to the review as well as supporting the project team after the review in the action closure process and in the review of the HAZOP and LOPA Reports (issued by the Subcontractor).
- Previous FEED/EPC experience on Oil & Gas Processing / Refinery /LNG or Petrochemical projects is preferable.
- Knowledge of related implementation practices and the economics involved.
- Thorough knowledge of industrial and regulatory standards and design criteria in Functional Safety.
- Familiar with US, European, and other safety regulations as well as international codes and standards e.g. NFPA, API, IP, IEC.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, are required to maintain success in this position.
- A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline from an accredited college or university OR A professional license in an appropriate engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board, such as Certified Functional Safety Professional / Expert OR Sufficient number of specialized courses in relevant general engineering or appropriate engineering disciplines to meet job requirements AND Practical work experience in design engineering or relevant equivalent experience in allied types of engineering sufficient to demonstrate competence as a trained engineer.
