The Sr. Energy Systems Engineer is responsible for overseeing technical support resources for Powerflex’s customer-sited assets during their operational phase. This role is part of the Asset Optimization & Customer Success team, which ensures that Powerflex’s operating projects perform in accordance with internal and external requirements, including safe operation, minimal downtime, and maximum operational and financial performance. The Sr. Energy Systems Engineer will work directly with software engineering team, customer facility managers, 3rd party service providers and equipment manufacturers to troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve technical issues on operating solar and energy storage projects.
Location
This role is open to be 100% remote or a hybrid role out of one of our offices (Mountain View, CA, or San Diego, CA).
Responsibilities
50% - Serve as the technical lead for Powerflex-managed solar and energy storage projects during their operational phase. This includes reviewing project technical specifications, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, leading troubleshooting efforts, and managing communication with suppliers and OEMs.
20% - Provide strategic advice to the contracting team to ensure the availability of appropriate technical support resources for project operations.
10% - Develop and implement advanced tools and processes to streamline issue recognition, diagnosis, and resolution, thereby minimizing downtime and maximizing asset performance.
10% - Contribute to the productization of storage offerings by providing insights and recommendations from a support and asset management perspective.
5% - Participate in planning and executing technology upgrades aimed at improving overall system performance and efficiency.
5% - Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, equivalent discipline, or the equivalent work experience required
8 years’ in technical solutions support or product development role
5 years’ experience in coding
Combination of education or experience with direct knowledge of battery storage and associated commercial and industrial market operation.
Proven experience in the technical management of battery storage assets.
Proficiency in advanced monitoring tools, data analytics, and control systems including the ability to read and understand code.
Ability to use REST APIs using platforms like Postman
Ability to read and modify JSON configuration files
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Effective communication skills for conveying technical information to diverse stakeholders
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

Strong background in single and three phase AC power
Experience implementing and troubleshooting industrial communications - MODBUS
Experience with data network topology, operations and construction (e.g. Ethernet, serial, fiber-optics, switching, routing, etc)
Experience installing, commissioning and troubleshooting photovoltaic (PV) inverters
Experience installing, commissioning and troubleshooting Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
Experience with installing, commissioning and troubleshooting power meters and protective relays Knowledge of the National Electric Code
Able to understand and use electrical line diagrams
Able to understand and use networking diagrams
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively both internally and externally.

Compensation
The pay range for this position is $91,000 - $152,000 annually. This position is eligible for PowerFlex's comprehensive Health and Welfare plans including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement plan and paid time off. The total compensation for this position may include an annual performance bonus (or other incentive compensation, as applicable). PowerFlex's compensation packages carefully consider a candidate's qualifications, experiences, and education in relation to the position.
Physical Requirements
Ability to travel to and conduct work site visits. Requires standing, walking, and able to document/measure existing conditions.
Working Conditions
A mix between office / remote office environment utilizing computers, phones, and general office equipment, and field visits to project sites, which requires standing, walking, ability to document and measure existing conditions onsite.
