Sr. Employment Resource Counselor
General Description:
This full-time non-exempt position, under the supervision of the Program Director, is responsible for managing a minimal caseload and supervising the work of other employment resource counselors. This position is also responsible for coordinating all employment resources issues related to the residents.
Qualified applicants will have the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
A working knowledge of:
- Federal, state and local employment laws
- Employment opportunities convenient to the population served
- Employment principles and acceptable work ethics
- Modern principles of criminal justice and community corrections
- Employer-employee relation issues relevant to offenders
- Job development and networking processes
- Available support services, including tools and opportunities for assessment and skill development
The demonstrated ability to:
- Develop and maintain a directory of bona-fide employers
- Provide leadership through the supervision of Employment Counselors in terms of direction, input, feedback, follow up and role modeling
- Train new Employment Counselors
- Interpret and implement contract rules, regulations, policies and procedures
- Analyze needs and provide development for residents’ job/vocational readiness
- Participate in team initiatives
- Clearly express ideas orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, residents and employers
- Manage a flexible work schedule including some travel
- Multi-task, meet deadlines and work under changing priorities
- Provide back-up for the Director, Employment as needed
- Meet reporting requirements accurately and timely
- Maintain contracting agency clearance requirements
- Maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing.
Academic and work experiences:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Criminal Justice or a Social Science and three years of relevant work experience in an adult human service environment (job development and or career development experience preferred). Supervisory experience a plus. Valid Driver’s License required.
