Join our team as a Senior Electrical Design Engineer within Current Product Engineering at Harley-Davidson Motor Company. This role is instrumental in leading the delivery of projects that align to deliver Cost Productivity. In this role, you will be part of a cross-functional team working with Sourcing & Supplier Management, Test Labs, and Manufacturing focused on delivering Cost Productivity Projects across the entire vehicle portfolio. The Senior design engineer will use engineering tools such as CAD models and drawings, as well as predictive analysis and conventional engineering tools and calculations, to demonstrate and communicate robustness of designs. The engineer will develop and track work through detailed project plans, lead presentation of design options through a formalized design review process, perform DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, analyze test results and bring closure to test findings, and deliver new designs and product changes to production.
Hybrid Location
Position will be hybrid with time split between a home office and on-site at our Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI.
Job Responsibilities:
- Deliver robust, optimized designs for vehicle functions and systems while adhering to project targets, performance objectives, high quality, and cost reduction targets.
- Partner with a cross-functional team and suppliers to meet program and build milestones. Identify risks and propose mitigations.
- Verify component & system performance to H-D standards, approve supplier validation, and work with test and verification entities to ensure EE system meets or exceeds targets.
- Independently solve complex technical issues by applying problem solving techniques and facilitating cross-functional engineering & test support as needed
- Perform Design Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (DFMEAs), Design Verification Plan & Reports (DVP&Rs), analyze test results and bring closure to test findings.
- Support Pilot, Pre-production and launch build events and participate in product test & evaluations.
- Ensure silent Model Year Launch and Running Change activities
Education Requirements:
This position requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering
Experience Requirements:
- The successful candidate will have at minimum of 5 years of relevant design experience.
- A strong technical background is required; including an understanding of key tools and processes leveraged in analysis, design, test and manufacturing
- Strong interest or direct experience in motorcycle or vehicle engineering experience (e.g. automotive, power sports, construction, agriculture, aerospace, marine).

- Electrical System design/development experience from concept through production launch.
- Experience authoring requirements, developing test-cases, and establishing traceability in a process that supports product development in accordance with a functional safety process, ISO26262 preferred.
- Experience with Quality Engineering deliverables, including DFMEAs and Design Validation Plans and Test Reports.
- Creative approach to solving problems and able to own issue resolution from data collection, data analysis, root cause identification, solution set generation, and selection of optimal solution.
- Ability to communicate technical subjects in a clear, concise manner to multiple levels of the organization.
- Success using project management tools and principles to deliver on-time and within budget.
- Ability to work with diverse global teams both internally and externally (suppliers).
- Proficient with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing and datum structure development
- Extensive knowledge of Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacturing best practices
- Knowledge of whole-vehicle systems with detailed electrical system/component choice, software design, electrical design & integration experience. Ability to work beyond electrical engineering and apply basic electro-mechanical engineering skills/experience.
