The Senior Manager, EHSS will provide leadership, direction and support for all matters related to Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security in partnership with the designated Ajinomoto manufacturing facilities. This will be done in an effort to ensure compliance with Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security procedures and all applicable laws and regulations. Additionally, they are to assist in the achievement of the Company’s core values, and mission. The Sr. Manager, EHSS will work with leadership in the manufacturing sites including Plant General Managers and Site EHSS staff to drive the safety culture of the organization.

- Partner with the Director, EHSS to develop, execute, implement and promote a safety culture and behavioral based safety program throughout the organization.
- Lead, manage and develop safety team members and enhance security awareness.
- Work with employees to develop and implement specific safety and security plans and policies;
- Establish and maintain company-wide environmental, health, safety and security training requirements and protocols;
- Serve as liaison with executive management on key environmental, health, safety, security, and loss prevention matters;
- Provide technical expertise, leadership, and support for all assigned facilities and areas of oversight on environmental, health and safety regulatory matters;
- Lead or participate in incident investigations in facilities of oversight and coordinate the review of the investigation reports with proper management team members;
- Conduct, participate and coordinate internal audits and risk analyses for all assigned areas of responsibility and work with plant management to identify, correct, and abate recognized safety and security hazards, behaviors, non-compliant programs and procedures and other loss exposures;
- Participate in new equipment/process reviews, including hazard analyses and operator training where necessary;
- Support corporate/plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety, security, and occupational hazards;
- Advises plants and corporate staff of regulatory requirements, and changes and the effective date of the new regulation(s). Monitors changes in regulations and develops programs to ensure the company is in compliance;
- Support the EHSS departments continuous improvement initiatives and priorities;
- Provide guidance and support to plant EHSS staff related to process safety management/Risk Management Program, Wastewater, Storm Water, and Air Permits along with combustible dust handling.
- Assist in the development of company goals and targets related to environmental, health, safety, and security matters.
- Serve as liaison with pertinent regulatory agencies, and coordinate communications and actions with outside counsel, when necessary.
- Have oversight and support the execution of plant specific EHSS budgets
- Complete, review and submit reports for various governmental or corporate levels and seek appropriate level of approvals as necessary.
- Subject to the requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 and Ajinomoto Food’s HIPAA Privacy and Security policies and procedures, assisting the Ajinomoto Food health plan with day-to-day activities involving protected health information, including but not limited to, assisting with employee claims, coordinating benefits, determining health claim status, determining eligibility for coverage, budgeting and renewal, billing and collection activities, obtaining assistance from third-parties for plan functions, and any other duties delegated by the HIPAA Privacy or Security Officer.
- Oversee the security program, continuously improve security controls, guarding programs, and plant capabilities. Manage security exercises, site audits, and reviews.
- Identify and evaluate security gaps, collaborate with corporate EHSS managers on risk mitigation, provide risk remediation analysis, and ensure compliance with Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) best practices.
- 4 Year / Bachelors Degree Bachelor's Degree in Safety, or STEM related discipline required.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety program and people management. Experience with managing security programs is preferred.

- Strong people and communication skills and has demonstrated success in effectively working across functions and levels at the micro and macro levels.
- Strategic thinker with proven track record in quickly gaining credibility and partnering collaboratively with leaders (HR and business) across the organization
- Ability to be equally adept in moving seamlessly between micro and macro responsibilities and be hands on in supporting the day to day activities
- Understanding of and practical experience in leveraging change management tenets and effective change communication strategies
- Deep analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to leverage data and metrics

Physical Demands or Working Conditions: The working conditions of this job require the employee to frequently be exposed to wet, humid, and extremely cold conditions. Employee is occasionally exposed to vibration and the noise level can be moderate. To protect against these conditions, frequent use of personal protective equipment is required. Characterized as sedentary work. Job demands may require long periods of sitting; telephone work and/or computer work as well as interactions with other employees and customers; filing in lateral and upright file cabinets. The employee frequently is required to see, walk, talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.
