Sr. Director of Finance and Controller - Lawrence General Hospital

Supervise and oversee various functions of the Fiscal Services department, including patient financial services, the central billing office, patient access, accounting, accounts payable, and payroll.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Adhere to and establish Fiscal Services department goals and objectives consistent with the Hospital’s strategic and operating plans, including the annual operating plan (AOP).
2. Review the monthly financial statements for the Hospital and its affiliates.
3. Review the annual financial statements and related footnotes.
4. Ensure compliance with quarterly debt compliance reporting.
5. Continually improve and implement internal controls via policies and procedures
6. Review complex accounting reconciliations.
7. Formulate new financial strategies and identify cost-cutting opportunities.
8. Review departmental budget-to-actual revenue and expense performance.
9. Plan and delegate work assignments, train, supervise, and evaluate staff.
10. Coordinate and prepare for year-end audits and periodic external audit reviews.
11. Ensure staff are maintaining records and preparing reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principals (GAAP).
12. Supervise the preparation of all non-payroll tax returns for the Hospital and its affiliates, including form 990s and form 1120s.
13. Supervise the preparation of all payroll-related federal and state tax returns for the Hospital and its affiliates. 
14. Supervise the accounts payable and cash disbursements process to ensure that payments are being made in a timely fashion.
15. Review weekly and biweekly payroll processes.
16. Coordinate the renewal of all annual insurance policies for the Hospital and affiliates.
17. Ensure compliance with local, state and federal reporting requirements in the areas of financials statements, taxes, property, and corporate annual returns.
18. Perform periodic audits of accounting, payroll and accounts payable.
19. Document and update fiscal policies, procedures and narratives on a timely basis.
20. Assist in the preparation of the annual operating budgets for all of the Hospital’s affiliated entities. 
21. Research and implement the latest best practices for Accounts Payable and Payroll processes.
22. Participate in all relevant financial and compliance committees.
23. Other duties and special projects as assigned by the CFO or Executive Vice President of Fiscal Services.

EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE:

1. Required:
   1. A Bachelor’s degree (B.A., B.S.) or higher with concentration in Accounting.
   2. 10 years’ experience in healthcare accounting.
   3. Advanced Microsoft Word & Excel skills.
   4. Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
   5. Advanced interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
   6. Must be extremely well organized to handle dozens of tasks simultaneously under consistently tight deadlines.

1. Preferred:
   1. CPA licensure.
   2. MBA or other relevant master’s degree
   3. Previous auditing experience, preferably at the Audit Manager level or higher
   4. HFMA current and actively participating member.
