**Overview:**
The Senior Director, Philanthropy Champions Program and Clinical Advancement oversees URMC Advancement’s signature training program, Philanthropy Champions, with a high degree of independent judgement and latitude. The Philanthropy Champions program is the primary engagement strategy for partnering with caregivers across URMC who can help identify and engage patient prospects who have an interest in making a philanthropic impact at the University of Rochester Medical Center. The Senior Director serves as the primary Advancement liaison for engagement and fundraising support for the Department of Surgery, the Department of Emergency Medicine, Strong Memorial Hospital, and the Clinical Nursing team. In doing so, they will manage a portfolio of major gift prospects, including grateful patients, community donors, and individuals interested in supporting clinical care, education, and research initiatives at the Medical Center. The Senior Director reports to the Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Clinical, Research, & Hospital Programs.
**Principal Duties:**
Serves as the primary Advancement liaison for engagement and fundraising support for the Department of Surgery, the Department of Emergency Medicine, Strong Memorial Hospital, and the Clinical Nursing team.
Responsibilities include:
+ Works closely with URMC Chief Operating Officer, URMC Chief Medical Officer, URMC Chief Nursing Executive, Department Chairs to identify fundraising priorities and articulates compelling cases for support
+ Develops, implements, and assesses a comprehensive engagement and fundraising plan for each Unit or Department
+ Creatively utilizes a variety of approaches to engage prospects, strengthening their relationship to the institution, building lasting relationships built on trust, promoting three-part giving, and documenting donor history
+ Maintains regular contact with prospects and donors through personal visits, letters and phone calls.
Manages a portfolio of 75-80 major gift prospects with a collaborative, donor-centric approach.
+ Makes a minimum of 75 face-to-face visits annually.
+ Executes 5-7 major gift solicitations annually
With strategic direction from the AVP and using a high degree of independent latitude and judgment, directs the Philanthropy Champions engagement program for URMC:
+ Identifies and recruits Philanthropy Champions
+ Plans and executes all Philanthropy Champions general sessions for all cohorts
+ Develops curriculum for the Philanthropy Champions program; augments curriculum for delivery to other audiences throughout URMC (departments, units, hospitals, volunteer boards, etc.)
+ Presents curriculum in Philanthropy Champions sessions, as well as other audiences
+ Develops resources (print, online, Intranet, video) to support Champions and their Advancement partners in learning, applying and retaining patient philanthropy practices
+ Leverages the Philanthropy Champions engagement strategy to new audiences at UR Medicine and its affiliated hospitals
+ Directly interfaces with Philanthropy Champions, URMC Chairs, Chiefs and URMC leadership to implement and sustain and expand the Philanthropy Champions program
+ Collaborates as appropriate with URMC Advancement Projects to ensure we are maximizing our use of the Medical Advancement System and optimizing the information received to best inform fundraising and prospecting efforts
+ Assists in the creation and updates to UR-specific predictive models, data visualizations and reports that guide patient qualification efforts
Metrics tracking and reporting
+ Develops and implements standard processes for coding patient prospects, interests, and referrals
+ Develops and tracks metrics and dashboards to demonstrate program progress and provide accountability to the highest levels of URMC leadership, including the CEO
+ Monitors prospect coding (MAS Prospect, interest codes and referrals) and works with gift officers to ensure coding occurs
+ Educates gift officers on best practices in patient fundraising, including qualification, coding and tracking

**Basic Qualificiations:**
+ Bachelor’s degree required
+ Master’s degree preferred
**Required:**
+ 10 years of applicable experience with at least 5 years in development work at an educational institution or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Preferred background includes experience in multiple Advancement disciplines and at least 2 years of successful major gift work, preferably at a medical or educational institution
+ Proven experience in major individual gift fundraising and in cultivating and soliciting prospects capable of gifts at the $100K+ level
+ Positive attitude that focuses on collaborative solutions to challenges
+ Works well within a team by showing respect, inclusion, encouragement, and dedication
+ Proven ability to effectively manage interactions with Advancement and Medical Center leadership and internal advancement partners such as gift officers, event planning staff, and senior leadership
+ Excellent writing and verbal communication, including the presentation of quantitative and qualitative information to a diverse audience of advancement and medical professionals
+ Flexible approach to new and changing initiative surrounding patient and family giving
+ Experience and aptitude for analytical thinking.
+ Customer-service orientation
+ General information of tax laws that impact charitable giving, personal assets and estates
