Position Purpose
Under general management, the Sr. Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and integrating data pipelines and assets within our enterprise data platform. Your work will ensure data accessibility, reliability, and security to support analytics and reporting across the organization. In this role, you will work with both on-premises and cloud technologies while adhering to best practices in data governance and quality. Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Create, maintain, and optimize data workflows from development to production, ensuring high performance, scalability, and reliability.
Maintain data availability and ensure compliance with RLI’s security standards and best practices.
Perform root-cause analysis and resolve issues related to technology, processes, or resources.
Develop and enforce data integration and data quality practices to maintain consistency across data sources.
Automate the integration, testing, and deployment of code to support continuous delivery of high-quality solutions.
Work closely with data architects, product managers, data analysts, and developers in an agile team environment, delivering iterative improvements.
Education & Experience
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, business administration, or a related field
4+ years of relevant experience
[OR] equivalent level of education and experience
Experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, & Competencies
Strong ability to write and optimize complex SQL queries to ensure efficient data processing, integration, and analytics.
Experience designing, deploying, and managing scalable data infrastructure on Microsoft Azure, including services like Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Blob Storage.
Expertise in automating data workflows using Informatica Data Management Cloud (IDMC) or similar tools for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
Hands-on experience building and maintaining data warehouses using Snowflake or similar platforms, ensuring optimized data storage and retrieval for analytics.
In-depth understanding of data integration, quality practices, and ensuring consistency across data sources through well-defined workflows.
Proficiency in Python or similar languages (e.g., Java, Scala) for developing and optimizing data processing tasks to support scalable data solutions is preferred.
Experience in designing and implementing data models and schemas that ensure efficient storage, integrity, and accessibility for analytical needs is preferred.
Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., Azure DevOps), and version control systems (e.g., Git) to automate deployments and manage code changes is preferred.
Basic knowledge of implementing data governance practices and securing data pipelines in production.
Exposure to MongoDB, AWS, API data formats (e.g., XML, JSON), Kafka, and an understanding of AI/ML algorithms is preferred.
Proactively seeks out new trends and learning opportunities.
Effective communicator who works well with both technical and non-technical team members across distributed teams.
Strong ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve complex issues.
Comfortable handling changing data sources, tools, and business requirements in a fast paced environment.
Compensation Overview
The base salary range for the position is listed below. Please note that the base salary is only one component of our robust total rewards package at RLI. The salary offered will take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications/credentials, talent availability & specialization, as well as business needs. The below range may be modified in the future.

$92,526.00 - $132,312.00Total Rewards
