Sr. Cell Technology Integration Engineer - Solid Power

Position Overview:

Solid Power is seeking a Cell Technology Integration Engineer to join our talented team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative team environment. This position will work closely with both the R&D and cell engineering teams in scaling promising designs/formulations up into EV-scale battery formats. An ideal candidate will have sufficient electrochemical knowledge to understand battery cycling data in low-capacity formats and then propose the key formulation/processing changes required to achieve viability in larger-capacity formats.

Job Duties:

• Analyze electrochemical data for cell recipes across size formats to understand scale-up hurdles.
• Design processing or formulation modifications to facilitate scale-up by improving slurries, interfaces, and mechanical properties.
• Clearly articulate proposals to internal stakeholders and then perform/oversee necessary experiments.
• Troubleshoot process issues and implement corrective actions to address deviations or failures.
• Assemble and test solid-state cells. Perform materials characterization and post-mortem analysis.
• Work closely, collaboratively, and effectively with other departments and team members to explore new ideas and develop experimental plans.
• Plan and execute DOE (Design of Experiments) independently and determine the importance of multiple factors/parameters.
• Mentor Junior team members and foster a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
• Use the company's document and change control system to properly archive technical documentation.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Minimum of master's degree with a focus on chemistry, materials science, electrochemistry, or a related discipline.
• 2+ years of industry experience in development of lithium ion or solid-state batteries.
• Robust understanding of battery performance metrics, degradation mechanisms, and failure modes.
• Experience in statistical analysis and data interpretation techniques for deriving meaningful insights from test results.
• A history of performing and analyzing data from electrochemical impedance experiments is preferred.
• Strong technical communication skills and facility for communicating complex ideas to diverse audiences.
• Experience in material characterization techniques including XRD, SEM/EDS, DSC/TGA, and particle size analysis a plus.
• Leadership experience a plus.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
• Ability to work in a dry room environment and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $145,000/Annually
