The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of procurement processes, negotiation skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally with various departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Order Placement:
- Place orders with suppliers for routine, everyday stock items including fire extinguishers, pipes, materials, and other necessary inventory items.
- Ensure all orders are placed in a timely manner to maintain optimal stock levels and support uninterrupted manufacturing processes.
- Inventory Management:
- Respond to inventory requests from warehouse teams and ensure that stock levels are adequate to meet production needs.
- Monitor inventory levels and use historical data to guide purchasing decisions and prevent overstock or stockouts.
- Supplier Relations:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliable and cost-effective procurement.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, freight, and delivery locations with suppliers to secure the best possible deals.
- Follow up on orders to confirm delivery schedules and ensure pricing aligns with negotiated rates, especially for bulk buys.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze previous years' purchasing data to identify trends and use insights to inform current and future negotiations with suppliers.
- Prepare and maintain reports on purchasing activities, cost savings, and supplier performance.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Supply Chain Manager to obtain approvals for orders and to participate in the bid process.
- Collaborate with internal teams including warehouse, sales, and customer service to understand their needs and ensure that purchasing decisions are aligned with overall company goals.
- Process Management:
- Develop and maintain manual processes as necessary, ensuring all purchasing activities are well-documented and compliant with company policies.
- Utilize Salesforce and other relevant software tools to track orders, manage supplier information, and generate reports.
- Technical Skills:
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, to manage data and create detailed reports.
- Use email and other communication tools effectively to manage supplier and internal communications.
- 7-10 years of experience as a Buyer in manufacturing or a related field, with a focus on purchasing parts and materials.
- Experience in the manufacturing industry with an understanding of procurement processes for routine stock items.
- Familiarity with bulk purchasing and managing supplier relationships for high-volume orders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Strong negotiation skills with a proven track record of securing favorable terms.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with Salesforce or similar CRM/ERP systems.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Education:
- Associate’s degree in business or a related field is required.
