About the Job
Position Summary: Purchases materials or other goods and coordinates activities involved with procuring products and services, such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, and advertising for establishment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receives and reviews requisitions requesting goods or services.
- Interviews and confers with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
- Selects products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items.
- Expedites orders and requests as needed.
- Estimates values according to knowledge of market price.
- Builds relationships and collaborates with internal departments.
- Determines method of procurement, such as direct purchase or bid.
- Prepares purchase orders or bid requests.
- Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
- Maintains procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, inventories, agreements, and contracts.
- Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.
- Keeps abreast of market trends, changes in business practices in the assigned markets, new or altered types of materials entering the market, etc.
- Supports ECN process by but not limited to contributing purchasing information such as pricing, lead time, vendor code, MIN, MAX, EOQ, etc. to ECNs in an expeditious manner. (This information will be obtained through the RFQ process). Required to manage the inventory associated to each of these said ECN's or projects.
- Develops and implements formal policies and procedures for materials management, inventory control, and purchasing. Utilize MRP system for all forecasting, tracking, and reporting of all raw materials.
- May work with manufacturers or persuade potential vendors to undertake the manufacturing of custom-designed items according to user's specific needs and specifications.
- May approve invoices for payment.
- May expedite delivery of goods to users.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain or industrial engineering and 4 years of purchasing in metals preferred, supply chain, or inventory management or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements: Office and manufacturing environment. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing and walking on the manufacturing floor.
Work Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to manufacturing equipment and machinery, forklifts, and pallets. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme hot and cold weather conditions. Personal protective equipment required in all areas of the production plant.
