POSITION SUMMARY:
The University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School is seeking an experienced professional with a science background to support the Chief Research Computing Officer (CRCO) in the development, and subsequent execution, of an institutional computing strategic plan for basic science research. The ideal candidate understands basic science biomedical research and has familiarity with the use of information technologies in cutting edge and data-intensive research, including artificial intelligence (AI) applications. They will be a self-starter with excellent communication and writing skills, who is at ease working with researchers, information professionals, institutional leadership, and administrative partners. Responsibilities:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Collaborate with researchers, software developers, and IT staff to design computational solutions.
- Contribute to the advancement of data-intensive research initiatives.
- Collaborate with research teams and IT staff to understand their HPC and other computing needs and utilization.
- Identify research projects that can benefit from computational resources and solutions.
- Document basic science research use cases, including research workflows.
- Document basic science research computational methods and IT needs.
- Document information technology utilization metrics for basic science labs.
- Synthesize use cases, metrics, and competitive landscape reviews into an assessment of current and potential future states of computational methods, information technology utilization, and data science approaches for basic science research.
- Support the CRCO in developing synthetic and forward looking organizational, structural, and resourcing models for computational methods, infrastructures, services, training, and a diverse workforce.
- Support the operationalization and maturation of approaches and strategies to advance the use of novel and effective computational methods across basic science research.
- Work closely, and communicate effectively, with partners including researchers, institutional leaders, information technologists, administrators, librarians, and other partners in developing and executing tactical and strategic plans.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a biological, biomedical, or related field.
- 5 years experience with data-intensive research and information technologies or business analysis.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with researchers from diverse disciplines.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- An advanced degree in biological or biomedical sciences.
- Experience providing computing or information technology services for research.
- Experience as a business analyst to document requirements.
- The ability to synthesize complexity into documented thematic foci.
