Actuary - Excess and Surplus Reserving Job Description: Nationwide Insurance is seeking a highly skilled Sr.
Actuary to join our team, focusing on Excess and Surplus Reserving.
The successful candidate will assist with data manipulation and the development of reserving models, direct and assumed program business written by Ryan Specialty Underwriting Managers (“RSUM”) or the 3rd-Party assumed reinsurance exposure (“3rd Party Re”) written by Ryan Re, an external MGU. Key Responsibilities: Help lead and mentor a team of actuarial analysts. Serve as the reserving lead across several business verticals, analyzing and interpreting complex data and collaborating with business partners on insights and trends to inform business decisions. Communicate the impact of reserving insights and trends on financial results. Collaborate with teams across Nationwide’s reserving practice to enhance and optimize reserving processes and models to support advancements in the modernization and transformation of the company’s reserving capabilities. Qualifications: Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) or equivalent highly preferred. Experience in reserving preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in data manipulation and actuarial modeling software like Arius or ResQ. Excellent communication and leadership skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects. This role can be staffed fully remote.  It will be staffed at the H5 internal pay band.   #LI-SM1 #LI-remote Job Description SummaryOur Property and Casualty (P&C) Actuarial team members have opportunities to use state-of-the-art tools, are encouraged to innovate and learn to master actuarial methodologies.

Makes recommendations on data and software packages that help drive strategic vision of P&C actuarial and business success.  Has expert knowledge of modeling, predictive modeling, and software applications.Consults and provides expert advice on new or enhanced product development opportunities, including discussions on data needed for analysis, coding implications and opinions of the viability and profitability of proposals.May perform other responsibilities as assigned.Reporting Relationships: Reports to Actuarial leader.Typical Skills and Experiences:Education: Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science or similar background requiring modeling, programming, or quantitative analysis preferredLicense/Certification/Designation: Actuarial designation required, generally as an FCAS.
