Responsibilities
**Position Summary:**
With minimal direction from the division administrator, responsible for the financial management, accounting, and reporting systems for institutional and research accounts, clinical practice accounts, gift and endowment accounts, and other program accounts Pulmonary. Conducts detailed analysis of accounts, including account history, costs, forecasts, and the drivers of each. Provides accurate and up-to-date financial information to support successful financial management of these accounts. Utilizes knowledge of the University accounting procedures and funding agency policies to provide proper review and control over all activities that impact the financial records.
**Responsibilities** :
+ Performs high level, in-depth analyses and reconciliation of accounts, including monthly trend analysis of salary and non-salary expenses, utilizing UR Financials, COGNOS, HRMS, and other tools. Reviews monthly accounting reports with Principal Investigators and lab staff. Works with the grant’s administrator, clinical research manager, and division administrator as needed. Monitors accounts for appropriateness of charges. Meets monthly, with faculty and staff and reviews their current spending and forecast projections based on spending trends. Reviews financial data processed through accounting systems in order to isolate problem areas (requiring working knowledge of data being processed and specific computer programs being used). Analyzes problems and makes recommendations for modifying or developing new segments of an accounting system including associated accounts, records, reports and controls for approval at higher levels. Completes Journal entries as needed.
+ Maintains awareness of and interprets UR policies regarding purchasing, financial accounting, and research accounting and costing standards. Evaluates division procedures and recommends and implements best practices to address procedural weaknesses. Advises faculty, research coordinators, technical and administrative staff on how to comply with the policies and adopt the best practices.
+ Develops projections for year-end close outs and works with the Office of Research Accounting and Costing Standards (ORACS) to prepare timely close outs of accounts. Identifies any errors and follows through to be sure they are corrected accurately and on time. Ensures back up documentation for all charges is received. Performs analysis and tests necessary to ascertain integrity of accounting data, account balances and to assure accurate reporting. Develops process improvement and corrective action plans. Makes recommendations for cost saving initiatives. Develops and recommends policies and procedures for accounting systems and financial reporting.
+ Tracks, maintains, and adjusts all staff and faculty salaries as needed. Reviews salary allocations with PIs and staff on a monthly basis to ensure accurate and complete allocations, and completing PAFs as needed. Maintains, updates, and tracks my activities spreadsheets for all human subject research coordinators and completes respective PAFs quarterly, at a minimum. Leads the review for plan confirmation and completes all forms as needed. Meets with the practice manager, nurse manager, and division admin to review clinical staff allocations, compare to manpower reports, and complete PAFs as needed.
+ Assists the division administrator in the development of the annual budget by forecasting PI grant efforts, reviewing ledgers and investigating charges, and forecasting endowment spending.
+ Creates and manages ad hoc reports to assist the grants administrator, clinical trials manager, and division admin, including grant out of award spending, information for faculty incentives, and other data.
**Qualifications:**
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
Three years related experience as a staff accountant or a combination of education and experience required.
CLASP certification will be required
**Preferred:**
+ Professional accounting skills
+ Proficiency with spreadsheet analysis and ability to quickly learn new systems, programs, and / or software.
+ Knowledge of institutional and funding agencies policies and procedures related to sponsored programs accounting, University purchasing processes, accounts payable processes, UR Financials, and payroll and human resources are preferred.
+ Ability to work independently, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, detail-oriented, and ability to work well in a team environment.

**Pay Range**
Pay Range: $53,500 - $74,900 Annually
_The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._
