Responsibilities:The Derivative Accountant will be responsible for various monthly accruals, ad hoc and recurring journal entries, account analysis and reconciliations, and assisting with preparation of month-end and quarterly close reports. A successful candidate will have knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures used in an industry accounting department. Duties will include:
- Prepare the reporting of derivatives activity for internal financial reporting and the financial disclosures included in the company quarterly and annual filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
- Complete monthly hedge accounting and corporate accounting journal entries, including mark-to-market and realized gains/losses, for posting in the general ledger.
- Create and record general journals as needed for monthly closes.
- Ensure system generated ledger postings are in accordance with approved accounting policies.
- Perform monthly budget versus actual, and period over period, income statement and Balance Sheet variance analysis for management reporting.
- Assist management in the research and preparation of technical accounting support to the Hedge Committee.
- Provide in-depth analysis on quarterly financial results to internal business units and senior management.
- Review derivative trade documents and settlements.
- Assist in implementing systems for derivative trades.
- Complete requested analysis and provide supporting information to external auditors.
- Develop excel formulas to automate process or improve efficiency.
- Assist with special projects as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting REQUIRED; Master’s degree in Accounting preferred.
- CPA preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in corporate accounting or public firm setting REQUIRED; Experience in a capital-intensive industry and public accounting preferred.
- Intermediate Excel skills REQUIRED (pivot tables, basic formulas, v-look-ups.)
- PeopleSoft experience strongly preferred.
