Responsibilities
**POSITIONS SUMMARY:**
With full autonomy and exercising independent judgment, directs all aspects of the academic programs in the department, manages academic, facilities, and operations staff, and produces deliverables.
**RESPONSIBILITIES:**
**Departmental Management**
+ Oversees daily operations of department.
+ Sets targets/goals for action items to be completed each week/month/semester, as well as running weekly meetings to track progress towards goals.
+ Creates, edits, and tracks the department’s strategic plan for growth, community engagement/outreach, and development.
+ Provides just-in-time support to staff to solve problems and address action items as they arise.
+ Supervises Department Administrator and Academic Assistant, including recruitment and performance evaluation.
+ Creates, maintains and faciliates training and onboarding plans for department.
+ Meets weekly with the Department Chair and Associate Chair to track progress towards goals, to review departmental management procedures, and develop changes to procedures when necessary
+ Negotiates contracts with external vendors (e.g., Xerox, Iron Mountain, etc.)
+ Forecasts department expenditures in relation to academic and operational needs (e.g., graduate stipends, adjunct faculty, speciality research equipment, etc.).
+ Consults with Finance Manager on annual capital budget.
+ Develops and implements new or revised academic and operational policies, evaluates and implements new processes to improve overall department functioning.
+ Stays abreast of changes and trends at the University, guides academic and operations staff through new initiatives and system changes.
**Academic Program Managememt**
+ Develops requirements for the undergraduate major and Ph.D. programs based on current best-practices in psychological science and direct input from the Chair and Associate Chair.
+ Develops plans for tracking student progress through programs.
+ Proposes and creates new courses when needs arise based on changing standards in the field.
+ Works with faculty and the Graduate Committee to target areas for course development. This entails creating analytics-driven projections of future enrollments based on departmental needs, growth modeling, and current trends in psychological science. The end-product of the projection is a summary presented to the faculty to help formulate departmental goals.
+ Coordinates all aspects of the graduate recruitment and admissions, including gathering data on availabilities/fit for candidates, collecting quantitative data on candidates, analyzing data, and presenting summaries to faculty
+ Coordinates graduate interview and campus visit processes, and modifies application portals to reflect current scientific norms (e.g., including diversity materials and GRE content).
+ Creates protocols for application procedures for graduate student onboarding, progress, and completion based on current analyses of extant data.
+ Manages and maintains curricular and recruitment sections of the departmental website, and develops innovative, data-driven methods for optimizing recruitment. Maintains content throughout the academic year.
+ Assigns graduate Teaching Assistants (TA) for all courses. This includes gathering data from faculty on previous performances, gathering data from students on preferences, and analyzing data to find optimal matches. Identifies needs for additional instructional support and coordinates with Student Employment Office and Department Administrator as needed.
**Academic Program Implementation**
+ Oversees undergraduate course implementation, including coordinating with departmental leadership on offerings, managing the Academic Assistant in updating course descriptions, monitoring enrollments, and suggesting avenues to improve efficiency/quality of education.
+ Identifies adjunct faculty needs on a per-course basis, including outreach, maintainance of records, and analysis of course performance.
+ Oversees graduate course implementation, including coordinating with the Graduate Studies Committee, managing the Academic Assistant in scheduling (room reservations, etc.), and navigating complex externship scheduels.
+ Creates new graduate offerings in collaboration with the Chair and Assoicate Chair based on benchmarks, including expanding the department’s methodological and analytical expertise.
+ Advises the directors of the graduate programs on areas of need and address questions of student progress.
+ Gathers data on course schedules in the department, analyzes data to identify times/days that are over/underloaded, disseminates summaries to the faculty, and helps formulate protocols for scheduling future courses if areas of improvement are identified.
**Analytics-Driven Advising & Oversight**
+ Interfaces with and disseminates information to the Chairs and College and University Graduate Deans’ Offices on Policies and Procedures related to the undergraduate and graduate programs in psychology. This entails collecting data from faculty and students (e.g., AEFIS), analyzing data to identify areas of strength/need, and creating protocols for maintaining and improving program offerings
+ Creates protocols for gathering data on student onboarding, degree progress, and department climate.
+ Updates/maintains the Graduate Student Handbook based on data gathered from faculty and students. Formulates goals for addressing areas of need.
+ Advises students regarding policies, procedures, and requirements for their doctoral program(s) using data-driven analytics. This also includes interpreting policies as necessary for the students, and coordinating with faculty. Works with Ph.D. students on developing and tracking their 5-year program plan, and helping them formalate goals for data collection.
+ Guides students through dissertation defense process.
+ Using independent judgment plans and runs group meetings with student cohorts, and coordinates meetings between student and faculty groups. This role requires being assigned to the Graduate Studies Committee. Has full voting rights on committee.
**Assessment & Accreditation**
+ Adminsters graduate students’ yearly evaluation process. This requires gathering quantitative and qualitative data on student progress and performance, analyzing and summarizing data, and presenting summaries with goals to individual faculty.
+ Manages all academic accreditation projects. This includes, but is not limited to, yearly internal audits, Middle States, APA, and PCSAS. Collaborates with faculty to gather data, perform self-studies, and summarize findings for accrediation and government agencies.
**Other duties as assigned**
+ Revises course information in University publications.
+ Independently performs feasibility and assessment studies, especially during cycles when accreditation processes are imminent, and oversees new accreditation. This requires extensive data collection, analysis, and summary.
+ Assists the department in Commencement planning, including coordination of doctoral ceremony attendance.
**QUALIFICATIONS:**
+ Bachelor’s degree necessary, graduate degree required (e.g., M.A., M.S., or Ed.D.) strongly suggested.
+ At least 5 years of related experience in academia or related field required.
+ At least 2 years of management experience preferred.
+ Possess excellent organization, time-management, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work on numerous projects simultaneously required.
+ Have strong word processing, database management, and spreadsheet creation skills required.
+ Strong communication skills required.

**Pay Range**
Pay Range: $68,675 - $103,147 Annually
_The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._
