Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Application Administration (70%)
- Comprehensive cataloging and understanding of all data artifacts used in and by Splunk
- Build and maintain a knowledge object library for all knowledge components of Splunk
- Create, configure, and manage summary-based reporting and data model acceleration
- Work with customers to learn the intricacies of their data for operational standards, troubleshooting and data mining initiatives for data classification and enrichment
- Build a strong enterprise-level model for data normalization, naming conventions, and Splunk application development standards
- Work with Splunk team to establish priorities, deficits, and strategic goals for all aspects of team operations
- Augment or create documentation per standards established by the Web Development teams
- Assist Splunk team with development of new applications, views, dashboards, reports, alerts, data collection, scheduling of alerts and reports
- Assist with the development and implementation of document configuration standards, policies and procedures for operating, managing and ensuring the security of Splunk infrastructure.
- Work with other PHEAA teams to establish optimally functioning processes for system optimization, incident management, development practices, etc.
- Reporting all items of interest of team in confirmed manner
- Create and maintain manageable processes and documentation for all aspects of administration and development.
- Provide input to the Splunk team for the development of new applications, views, dashboards, reports, alerts, data collection, scheduling of alerts and reports.
- Collaborate with architects, designers, requirements analysts, database and system administrators and developers on system and application design.
- Promote changes and releases through the various test, quality assurance and production systems.
- Export, import, build and deploy various system configurations and components.
- Research and troubleshoot the most complex technical issues causing the unavailability of systems or applications for users and provide expertise for resolution.
- Collaborate with vendor and internal support areas.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues causing the unavailability of systems or applications for users.
- Assist in disaster recovery planning, documentation and implementation.
Required Education/Skills/Experience
Minimum experience: Bachelor's degree in computer science and two years of administration and support experience or relevant experience or certification in computer science, information technology and at least five years administration and support experience or the equivalent combination of experience and training considered.
- Strong data analysis skills specializing in system and application log data
- Strong data organizational skills, proven knowledge of data taxonomy and knowledge-based modeling
- Detailed understanding software development life cycle principles, practice, & disciplines Programming experience in scripting, regular expressions, HTTP/XML, and data modeling
- Strong understanding of enterprise-level architecture, operating systems and management
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and oral
- Strong documentation and organizational skills
- Strong understanding of Data Security principles and practices
- Excellent written and verbal skills are essential
- Strong Linux/Unix background with scripting for automation and troubleshooting.
- Advanced knowledge of logging and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated good overall understanding of enterprise-level architecture.
- HTTP/XML programming experience.
- Hands-on experience with Splunk or other data consolidation / data mining technologies.
- Scripting experience with Regular Expressions, Python, JavaScript, XML or other languages.
- Working knowledge with Enterprise technologies (SiteScope, SCCM, Nagios, Puppet, etc.).
- Expert administration knowledge in a number of technical areas which could include Microsoft operating systems, WebSphere, Microsoft SQL Server, PeopleSoft, upgrades, installations, and architecture.
- Experience with technical consulting, big data and/or statistical and analytical modeling.
- Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to other technical staff members as well as non-technical members of the organization.
- Programming with Java, Ruby, PHP, or other Splunk-supported development languages
- Working knowledge with automation technologies (Puppet, Chef, CFEngine)
- Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to other technical staff members as well as non-technical members of the organization
- Working on projects that involve high volume web applications
- Working in a Call Center/Customer Service environment
- Working with a self-service Web application for a large company
- Experience customizing and configuring COTS systems
- SoapUI
- Cable and/or telecommunications industry experience
